Yup... please guys don’t forgot the text at the start of the video...
This is just a prototype, and do not necessarily represent the amiga version.
I want the game to Be ported to neogeo and other 16bit hardware. I use this prototype to test my animation and show how to use datas to the programmer. I originally made the video to post it on a neogeo forum, i m not an amiga specialist.

As for Graeme... we started a really cool little game.
hope we can go back at it once the covid crysis end and we go back to normal.
It was a real pleasure to work with him.

Edit: forgot about gibs... didn’t read his answer to me(i ve seen his video it was enough ), do not care about it.
I just don’t want to work with him and wish him well...

Played Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze on the Wii U with the kids a while ago. I sense some inspiration went from that game into this one. ;-) Looks really nice.

I think everyone posting in this thread should carefuly mind his post. This can result in a very bad mood as it happened several times already.

And a thread lock.

While on the subject, seeing that this thread is about both games and their "history", I'd suggest that future status updates for each game go to a respective thread dedicated to each game (ie one thread for Super Metal Hero and one for Miky's island). And that discussions about their relationships remain here.

Let's look at it in an optimistic way: maybe one day there will be two new great platform games on Amiga :-)

And yes 2 new threads will be better instead this one.

As per the initial version powered by Mike's engine, the new engine will use AGA dual play field, consisting of two parallax layers of 16 colours each, with the use of the copper for additional colours such as a sky gradient. Unlike the first engine, scrolling will not be forced.

Hi Colin,

Where can we see the progress of the game?
Do you have a youtube channel?

If i understand correctly it's dual playfield with two separate parallax layers for each playfield (like in prototype)?

And about colours, which may be main "reduction" topic, what about using more "copper colours" in game (similar as e.g. in Metro Siege where are 4 of them), not only for sky? In this way reduction of colours might be not needed. Is planned 12bit or 24bit (like in prototype) copper palette?

I hope there are not too much things would be "reduced" in Amiga version. This was often done in past and i don't like "it's worse version because Amiga..." way of thinking.

If it's targeted exclusively at AGA machines, there's no real reason to use a 12-bit palette. 16+16 for the dual playfields could be supplemented by an additional 16 colours for sprites (which could provide additional parallax layers depending on whether the game engine is using them too for the player etc.) The copper can then be used to supplement those colours as needed.

Glad to see that I m not the target of his insecurity crisis anymore :
On a more positive note i will update you on the game

Colin vella started working on SMH about a month ago and thing are going great

So for sure he isnt working 100% on it because he currently debugging the shadow of sergoth
But we can already see sone progress compared to our old version

Here a list of improvements

-player now as his own 16 color palette (the old amos version shared the palette with the background)

-so of course now the background got his own 16 color palette too.
Reworked all the background to made full extend of this feature

-reworked hero too for instance now the player as his green light on his helmet that was remove it s back on... other small detail and animation have being added

-raster gradiant are now 24bit before it ws less precise

-the original version only have 2 type of ramp the player can walk on we now have 6

-we currently now have 4 « world »
And about 15 levels. More to come on that front

- also tone of new enemy have being drawn

-finally the collision use to be linked to the tile now there on a different tile map.
This gave me a bigger freedom on how to manage the tilemap and create more variety on screen

I will hopefully post a video next time or you can follow the raster wizard page on fb

Right I will reopen this thread, please feel free to discuss this game WITHOUT it falling into an argument between members of the development team, or ex members. Discuss the game, not the background politics.

As for anyone posting links, or giving a voice to a banned ex-member. All I am going to say is this.. And I am saying it extremely loudly

DO NOT LINK TO, OR POST REPLIES FROM A BANNED EX MEMBER. THEY ARE BANNED FOR A REASON, THEY DO NOT HAVE A VOICE

After reading the vitriol that gibs has posted on his blog, his lifetime ban was clearly justified, anyone who starts a blog by in effect saying "I have moved on, I have grown, I am not interested" and then proceeds to publicly humiliate a member of this forum, and a valued member of the amiga community, and then go on to attack other members/mods of the EAB forum has clearly not moved on, and we will not tolerate this

@Gibs, I know you will read my reply, and I await your attack of me on your blog, but there were better ways for you to deal with this (like maybe contacting one of the current GMs, and letting us investigate and put your side across properly), instead you post absolute bollox on your blog..

If anyone wants to discuss this with me, please feel free to PM me, publicly this is the end of this childishness, we don't need it, the community doesn't need it and for sure those attacked don't need it!!

At the risk of sounding silly, even if "amiga" means freshness, happiness, celebration and friendship for many of us.
Human nature remains.
I feel sad about the whole story.

I would like someone to sum the current state: who is the programmer, who is the graphic artist, who is the musician and who is the publisher of the game Super Metal Hero at this moment.
