In absence of parallel port ?
I have a modern notebook, without parallel port
How can i use the PC2Amiga with a 4-wire “parallel null modem” / PC laplink cable (recommended by SPS) ? There's a reliable solution or i need an old computer ? |

i'd seriously suggest using any other means to transfer files from an amiga hard disk to the pc. using a cable is painfully slow.

It'd be quicker to dump all the games to the HDD, then take the HDD out and put it in your PC, which I've done before.
Might want to look into doing that instead? |

depends what amiga you are using i guess.
i used to dump to hdd in my a1200, then transfer via WLAN to my pc. nowadays i just use a PCMCIA-CFcard adaptor, installed fat95 on the dump disk and dump directly to the flash card CF0 instead of the hard disk, then i just whip the card out, put it in my pc, job done. on the a4000 you cant do that, so when i must use it i currently have a second hdd in there that is a 2gb FAT partition, and i dump to that still using the fat95 driver i installed on the dump disk, then pysically take the hard disk out and hook it up to the pc to retreive the files. |

you have more than 2 Mb to do this, isn't it (according to SPS guide) ? Last edited by Another World; 19 September 2008 at 13:34. |

well, the dump disk is a boot disk which dumps disks into raw format for us to work with.
its a standard amigados disk, and caters for 2 simple scenarios, 1) dump via cable and 2) dump to HDD. i can probably count on one hand how many people have ever used the cable option. but as you say, if you are ona bog standard amiga 1200 with 2mb, its your only choice. there exists a fat95 program which mounts windows formatted drives on the amiga, this can be copied over to the dump disk if you know what you are doing and an entry like mount CF0: put into the startup-sequence. when the dump disk then asks you which dir to save dumps too, you chose that instead. the drive you mounted can be put into a windows machine and read. the advantage of doing this with a CF card is quite obvious. sadly, while we are stuck with using the amiga it will never be 'simple' |

Does this usb to parallel thingy work to connect Amiga Joysticks via ppjoy and amiga joystick 4ply interface? I bet it will introduce some delay, making that unusable. But anyone ever tried?
Am thinking about buying a new desktop, but how am I gonna connect my Amiga Joysticks if it doesn't have a parallel port? |
