Keyboard joystick problems using WinUAE via Amiga Forever
I had an unusual bit of free time just recently so decided to crack out Amiga Forever and have a bit of a retro blast, but came across a small problem. It may be more appropriate to raise with Cloanto, I don't know, but I thought I'd mention it here just in case.
BACKGROUND: When I load up a game via Amiga Forever 2008, the AF Player has a button to select keyboard joystick or actual USB joystick/pad. By default nothing is selected, and F12-ing the game and looking in 'Game Ports' reveals WinUAE has not chosen anything for Port 1. After I click on the keyboard joystick icon in Amiga Forever, WinUAE changes Port 1 to whatever keyboard joystick setting I chose in the Amiga Forever options. PROBLEM: This stopped working once Amiga Forever upgraded itself to WinUAE 2.2.0. Specifically, when I click on the keyboard joystick icon in Amiga Forever, it is not just Port 1 which is changed to my preferred setting, but also both of the 'Parallel Port Joystick Adapter' ports. They are all changed to the same setting which seems to cause a conflict, as the keyboard joystick does not work. The workaround is to F12 the game, and change the settings to <none> for the 'Parallel Port Joystick Adapter' ports - then everything is fine. The problem is still there with the latest beta of 2.3.0 (Public Beta 8) but it is NOT there with 2.1.0. It's not the end of the world but the reason I like Amiga Forever is that it is quick and simple; this problem and workaround just makes things annoyingly fiddly. |

It is AF2008 bug (fixed in 2010), when WinUAE started reporting 4 joystick ports (2 normal + 2 parallel joystick), AF started sending input change events to parallel port joysticks, even if AF didn't even support more than 2 Amiga joysticks..
I guess I can add some sanity tests (but I am not yet sure if I bother with it because it was AF's problem to do the checking) |

Hi Toni,
No worries, like you say really it's for Cloanto to sort out, and as you say they have done for AF2010, I will probably just stick with WinUAE 2.1.0 until/if I upgrade to AF2010. Thanks for letting me know. |

Perhaps http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae.zip works without breaking anything else..

Thanks for that Toni, but unfortunately - as far as my problem is concerned - it doesn't seem to make any difference.
