Needed: A1200 Expansion Memory Test App

Hi fellow Amigans,

Apologies if this has been asked a million times before, but I've already done a quick forum search and not found what I'm looking for.

I think I've found an old 8MB SIMM that works in my Marpet M1207 expansion card. SysInfo tells me it's there and I have around 6.2MB of free Fast showing up in the Classic Workbench title bar, but are there any RAM test programs I can run to test it byte-by-byte just to make sure all is well?

TIA.

I'm very new to the Amiga and wasn't sure where to look. Thank you. Just the ticket!

I use amnesia http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/Amnesia12
It is a very simple test utility. I have no idea what test methods are used but it seems to do the job. Have yet to find broken memory actually.

Thank you, DopPie.

I'm only looking for 'broken' memory as others have found that many 8MB SIMMs that appear to work in some of the A1200 expansion cards aren't being reliably addressed above 4MB even though SysInfo et-al show them as being 8MB, thus leading to random crashes.

Oddly, some 8MB SIMMs also run very hot despite being of the correct 5V rating. Thankfully, mine is behaving itself and running stone cold. I just got lucky to have some suitable RAM sitting in the spares box from an old 386(?) PC I built in 1997 and kept the RAM from when I upgraded.

No guarantees, but others may find it useful if I put the individual RAM chip part number here. Mine is a 4-chip double-sided low profile SIMM populated with Siemens HY85118165BSJ-60 chips. Apart from 4 small decoupling capacitors, there are no other components on the SIMM.

The above works perfectly for 8MB in a Marpet M1207 Issue B expansion card.
