Should batteries be removed
Hi,
I've got a KCS Power PC Board and a Blizzard 1230 and both they have a battery. Should i replace them with new ones to prevent leakage and damaging the boards or can i remove the battery? where's the battery for and does it work without? thanks |

The batteries that leak are the barrel type found on the A500+, A2000, A3000 and A4000 and some Ram/Turbo Boards like the Apollo Cards. I've never seen a leaky Blizzard battery so you should be safe, however if you want your card to keep the time you might consider replacing the battery
![]() I'm not familiar with the KCS board, does this have a coin or barrel battery? Coin should be ok, barrel should be removed or replaced ASAP as they are ticking time bombs. |

If you can find any example anywhere of a leaked lithium battery, I’d like to see it

I had a leaking coin cell battery recently in a Sega Game Gear cartridge.
Mind you, it was soldered in, so perhaps the soldering process at the factory was at fault. |

Well the one in the link was socketed, so bummer!
I worry about leaving them in a Discman collection, and now it’s down to rechargeable Ni-Mh like Panasonic eneloop, but they haven’t been around for long to have any leaks, so I’m planning on cycling them each year to use in new stuff I don’t care so much about. |

FWIW, Lithium coin cells can leak, I have seen it happen. I've had NiMH AA's leak as well Radio Shack, RayoVac and an off brand, no Sanyo's yet and I have them going back to 1999 (pre-eneloop).
I make an annual change the battery day where order a pack of 10 and just replace them in all my devices which have them. I give the old ones to me son for his electronic projects since many are still good. |
