HDToolBox - partitioning a real HD
I've got my 30GB hard drive connected via USB and I've managed to get WinUAE to see it.
Under HDToolBox I can see the drive... 1. Tool type changed to uaehf.device 2. Drive shows as SCSI 5 0 Unknown 3. Select and click "Change Drive Type" 4. Select "Define New" and read config to get drive info 5. Select "Partition Drive" and move slider down to make first partition about 60MB then click "OK" When I click "Save Changes to Drive" I get "Error 28 on write!" and nothing I do can change it. I've tried using HDinstTools and I can see a line in the listview but get told nothing is compatible. Any ideas? |

Did you run winuae as administrator?
Does WinUAE show correct drive information in add harddrive dialog? (name, size and empty or RDB) Write enable checkbox is ticked? |

Yes, I've run it as Administrator as the button was ghosted and the little shield on it was a massive hint
![]() In HD dialogue you mean "Define/Edit Drive Type"? FileName drive definitions Manufacturers Name: FUJITSU Drive Name: MHR2030AT Drive Revision: 30BA Cylinders: 3648 Heads: 255 (Size: -65600K (-64 Meg) Blocks Per Track: 63 Blocks per Cylinder: 16065 Reduced Write Current Cylinder: 3648 [GHOSTED OUT] Write Precomp Cylinder: 3648 [GHOSTED OUT] Park Heads where: 3648 I've posted that as I've absolutely no idea! EDIT: If I select the drive in UAE and select Properties I've got: Hard drive: [OS] [27.9G,RW] FUJITSU MHR2030AT 30BA HD Controller: UAE The "Read/Write" checkbox is ghosted. Only OS3.5+ (or was it 3.9) hdtoolbox shows correct drive size if drive is >4G. Fortunately it is only visual problem. Define drive page values can be ignored, it is only for backwards compatibility with ancient drives. Quote:

I think I've found the problem.
Cleaned the drive again, removed the HD from UAE and re-aded it. Noticed while adding the "Read/Write" checkbox is clickable. This time I ticked it!!! It has now worked and the partition has been made and it's formatted fine ![]() |

Hi there!
I had the same problem with my 32 GB CF card; this procedure solved the problem for me too. Thanks! |
