Speedball 2: Bonus Stars

Is it possible to light up all the bonus stars with a single throw of the ball?

I have a memory of doing this, but I don't know if I'm imagining it, I read about it or someone told me about it. If it can be done it involves standing at one end of the stars in the exact right spot, facing up or down pitch and throwing the ball with power and aftertouch so it runs along the wall rising and falling while lighting up every star.

Has anyone else managed to do this?

If I remember right, yes but never reproduced it. Must be some lucky throw.

Yes, you can do this; I can reproduce it fairly regularly. I showed some people the trick on AmigaLive a week or so ago.

Make sure that the throw ability of the player is higher than the default, as the ball wont roll far enough otherwise, and then use the electrifier's corner-most edge where it meets the wall and throw the ball at full power diagonally towards the stars and the walls (so Up-Left if facing upwards, Down-Right if facing downwards), and if you do it right, it hits the corner of the electrifier, and then ricochets exactly North/South whilst still touching the wall, and lights up all the stars on the way up/down.

Great, thanks for the info. I’d love to see a video of this technique. This isn’t the way I had in mind though. As I said in my first post, I have a recollection (I think) of lighting all the stars with just a throw. No electrifier involved. Do you know if this is actually possible?

I've not seen it with a throw only - I've only ever seen 3 stars with a throw in the way you describe.

Secondly, I've seen one other way of lighting up the stars which is very rare/circumstantial. If you are throwing the ball near the wall and the opponent uses the "Z" tackle powerup, your player falls and the ball releases "non-central" to the player, thus lighting up the stars that way, but that's not really re-creatable in a reliable way.

In terms of my technique, [ Show youtube player ]

That’s great to see, thanks! I’m going to have to try and see if it’s possible my way. I hadn’t considered that is might also be something to do with your players stats as well, as you mentioned before.

SpeedBall2 is the best game ever... too bad I cannot get it to run properly in WHDLoad for some reason. Remember playing nights at a time and at some point beating Super Nashwan in the League, great times.

Broke a good joystick on this RSI inducing game, but good fun.

Most whdload versions of speedball2 crash with an error. No clue why. Only version that I can get to run OK'ish is the CD32 version (of which I dislike the colours) but it sometimes does the same thing. Stock 4000D...

All other games run fine...

Where/when do you get the error? If you get the error (requester) hit the core dump button what saves it to RAM:. Poste the error message (dump) with the bug description and system config. Better would be to use the mantis bugtracker via whdload.de. Make sure you use the latest slave/whdload version. You can also try the JST version.

Haha I did post a mantis ticket back in 2009 - even mailed a bit with Galahad. But I'll power up the miggy to see what it does again...
