PARCEIRO v2 for A1000

Hi all,
I'm expecting delivery in the next week or so of a Parceiro (V2) for my otherwise mint condition A1000. Anyone else got one, and if you do, got any tips?

It supports a kickstart rom emulation but that mod requires soldering and I'm not sure I want to touch the innards.

From the creator David :
Quote:
I’ve been making some iterative updates to the hardware, firmware, and software. Parceiro 2 packs a punch:

- 8MB AUTOCONFIG Fast RAM

- Modern Realtime Clock with battery backup

- AUTOBOOTING/Hot-Removable SD Card Read (no need for a workbench boot disk). This version is about 4x faster than Parceiro 1's I/O.

- OPTIONAL: Kickstart in ROM. This is optional. To use it, you need to modify the PALs on the motherboard. Some people don't want to do this. That is why it's optional. There is a jumper on the Parceiro to enable/disable this feature. If you don't do the PAL mod, then you'll need to boot Kickstart from a floppy disk.

- I just finished a modification to the cover that makes removal of the cover a little easier as well.

- I also just modified the firmware such that if you use the ROM then you can configure the RigidDiskBlocks on the SD to Mount / Boot specific Volumes based on OS. This allows you to have a specific boot partition loaded for specific OS versions thus eliminating the need for complicated startup scripts and comingling files from different Oss.

I have SN3 of V1 and quite happy with it so don't think I'll be upgrading it to V2 as I don't mind having to us emy kick disk and the speed is great for me

I quite like the quaintness of the kickstart disk but also I would like to boot into 3.1 at least occasionally, and I don't think that's possible without a ROM fix?

sorry no idea about that as my Amiga 1000 will always only run Kick/WB1.3 but please keep us posted here when you receive your V2

My A1000 currently runs ks1.1, it seems to be quite an early model. I can see the attraction in keeping it original - the reason I went with the Parceiro in the first place is that it's non invasive.

I've got newer faster better Amigas with 060s and RTG and more ram than I can count so I'm in no need of pushing the A1000 to the limit

I have a Parceiro v1 and there are a couple ways to run KS 3.1 without the need of a ROM fix: you can either use Twinkick (a special 1.3/3.1 kickstart disk + software switcher) or just boot normally into 1.3 and use zkick to softkick into 2.0/3.1.

Congratulations on purchasing a Parceiro. David and his labor of love are awesome. I don’t think you’ll regret it!

As for KS, I’m going to pair my Parceiro 2 with a Rejuvenator which allows the system to use the KS ROM without and permanent hardware mods.

He could implement an f00000 ROM to allow soft kicking. :-)

You can use MKick and 3.1 ROM image '40.063' with KickBench

... to boot an expanded A1000 (2M fast at $200000) into 3.1 'Insert Workbench' screen using only floppies:
There are lots of images that claim to be 40.63, but only one which displays '40.063' [ note the extra 0 ] on 'Insert Workbench' screen. Only that one will survive a 3-finger salute with MKick: search DuckDuckGo for 'github 40.063'. Took me about a week to find - accept no substitutes, they don't survive reboot.

KickBench is on Fish 36: https://aminet.net/package/misc/fish/fish-0036

I have the Parceiro v2 and it's really amazing. I did the PAL motherboard mod (very easy) and now my a1000 boots faster than my a3000 and a4000! Even with this mod, there's a jumper on the parceiro to disable autobooting of kickstart so you can go back to floppies if you wish.

I really like the little switch to boot in either v1.3 (original), 3.1 (Commodore's last) and 3.2.1 (latest). I usually boot in v1.3 since it's authentic to the A1000, but sometimes you just want to see your 1985 machine run the latest version 3.2.1. You can actually flash any kickstart image to any of the 3 kickstart slots, but it comes preconfigured as described above. So if you really wanted to boot in 2.0, go ahead.

Memory is fast, SD card loads at about 420k/s, real time clock works great. It's such a lovely device.

Overall I would recommend the parceiro to anyone with an amiga 1000 that wants everything you drooled over in the 80s but couldn't afford back then.

J

Forgot to mention that you can order the Parceiro with a 68010 CPU for a tiny bit more. You'll improve the a1000's speed by 10% and load times too. Not sure how it all works, but I went with this option and have no compatibility issues.

A 68010 gives WHDLoad Quitkey support although a lot of games have since been patched for 68000 support also.

Normally, the A1000 does not require any internal modification so that an external Kickstart ROM can be used.
Extra signals are available at the expansion port for this purpose.
