KGB WHDLOAD - Fast Music?

Hi,

It might sound like a strange one this... I've been playing KGB on my 1200 and when I move the mouse during game play the music speeds up and gets out of sync. All other games seem OK so it looks like it could just be this game. I am using the latest slave. Just wondered if anyone else had noticed this or whether there's something wrong with my 1200?!?

I have a 1200 with ACA1220 - so 128Mb of RAM and CPU runs at 18Mhz (not sure if its that difference over the 14 or 16 or whatever the original 1200 runs at).

I've just checked and i've been running it in PAL. Tried NTSC just now and the music is faster, so it's not that.

When the game starts music is fine, and then when you start moving the mouse on the game play screen it affects the music speed. It's rather odd. I suspect its the speed of my CPU and a bug in the slave driver that doesnt expect this, or a bug in the original game that doesnt expect the CPU to be running at 18Mhz.

i dont think its the cpu speed, if it makes you feel any better heres mine:

68060 running at 100mhz and the music is fine
68060 at 80mhz music is fine
68040 at 40mhz music is fine
68030 at 50mhz music is fine
68020 at 14mhz music is fine
68010 at 7mhz music is fine
68000 at 7mhz music is fine.

its more than likely the slave and the aca card, you could try nocaches or try all the options in the readme file that came with it or even try disabling preload.

i do think this is odd though, maybe its the way the card acceses its memory i dont know.

Thanks, at least that rules out CPU speed.

The Slave is the very latest from the website so i've ruled that out. I will take the expansion out tomorrow and try without it to see what difference that makes. What makes it even more strange is every other game I play is fine. EDIT: Also, I've read in the readme for it that originally there were sound related problems associate with some loops or something in code, I wonder if something was missed. Still its odd it's just my 1200...

is all i can say is it works fine on all my machines, like you all i would do is try all the settings in the tooltypes and see how it goes.

it may even be the way the card accesses its memory after preload,i dont know.

Just to confirm, did you skip intro etc and get to the first room where get the 'look' and 'talk' options - thats where the music speeds up if you move move the mouse in circles fast.

Thanks, i've worked this one out

It was very strange. It seems that if you have the standard 18Mhz (ACA 1220) you get the problem due to clock speed.

Today on a seperate endevour i've added a switch to overclock to 26Mhz and the sound is now perfect with no affect from mouse movement. If I switch it back I can hear sound effecting some of the channels (not all). It speeds up as you quickly circle mouse movement, but no effect at 26Mhz and no effect at stock speed either.

Send a message via MSN to dlfrsilver
Maybe the slave could be reworked to pass directly this problem ?

Quoting myself here as 18Mhz was incorrect, the default on the 1220 I have is 16Mhz. Overclocking to 26Mhz resolved the problem. Also seems fine at the default for the 1200 (14Mhz I think).

I thought I had solved this but after playing KGB for a while (an hour or so) and getting further into it eventually the music timing bug comes back. It's very strange that it only occurs after i've played to a certain part of the game at higher clock speed. If I lower clock speed of the expansion to the 16Mhz the music timing glitch is there right from the start, yet the sound can be flawless for a long time until the music has looped through the different music tracks, and then for no apparent reason the bug starts where you move the mouse and one sound channel speeds up.

What I do know is its not the Amiga hardware, i've played a tonne of games and not had any sound problems at all. I suspect other people might experience this but not realise it, and because for the most part it doesnt occur until a good 30 mins to an hour into the game you probably wouldnt notice it.

Sounds pretty much like an interrupt problem to me, is the music still playing too fast if you're using WHDLoad's "NOCACHE" option?

NoCache option makes no difference, I think its a slave bug, or a problem with Whdload 17.1

Getting the same Sound Problem in the German Version of KGB WHDload.

(fast music when moving the mouse pointer over objects)

The English KGB WHDload Version is fine.

KGB has a cracked german version and thantone works just fine with WHDload. Strange but true.

Besides, there are 2 german versions. One might be not supported ; i dont know.

But this also effected the English Version/s ? . Strange
