Seems the Poco X3 doesn't support 50hz mode after all. A friend of mine owns such a phone. I hope nobody bought one because of my post...
EDIT: It looks like the "TVHZ" app developed for Android TV boxes does let you choose 50hz mode on the Poco X3, but it will be some time before I can actually test it myself. Last edited by endre1952; 25 February 2021 at 00:02. |

The TV HZ app works on my Razer Phone 2, only it isn't really needed. The "game booster" app lets you assign a refresh rate for individal apps.
My friend says the app works on his Poco X3 phone and lets him set the 50hz refresh rate, only he doesn't have a trained eye to see whether the Amiga scrolling is indeed buttery-smooth. On my older Samsung phone, there is only one refresh rate in TV HZ: 60hz. |

I got myself a 128GB Poco X3. Seems it will work properly in 50hz mode, once I rooted the phone and turned off dynamic refresh rate. Originally, 50hz mode just a feature to save battery time when viewing static images. Unfortuantely, the system will only let me unlock the bootloader after 168 hours...I will keep you posted.

It's cheaper than a Razer Phone 2, at least in good condition. And with a Raspberry Pi, there aren't any really good portable solutions. If the Poco X3 works out, it will be my regular phone.

PSVita works well for Amiga emulation and other emulators. I'm not sure how comparable it would be to the price of this phone but certainly more practical for portable playing experience.
Back in the day when my Nokia ran picodrive emulator, it was easy enough playing sonic, but you could say goodbye to trying to play games that required combination of button presses e.g. Street Fighter II |

I do have a PSVita as well as a hacked Switch, they are both decent, but for Amiga emulation, I've been long waiting for a device that can do 50hz smooth scrolling. I'm not that fond of touchscreen gaming, but I do have a Razer Kishi as well as several iPega bluetooth controllers.
Now - I admit, a 50hz-capable screen is only needed for some Amiga games, there are many that only do 25hz. |

I never checked NVidia shield refresh rate, but that is not portable.
I did try some games on Vita and they do work well (portable) Also for lot of emulation needs you can get RG350 for about 70 USD. I refitted mine with new faster internal microSD card as well nice secondary card, changed firmware and setup new menu system with emulators I updated. This little device is really simple, nice and very small. To my surprise, emulators are well customized and run smooth. |

I can now confirm that the 50hz mode on the Poco X3 indeed works, if you unlock the bootloader, root the phone and install this custom rom:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/r...surya.4221645/ Or the latest version of it. The screen is perfectly capable to handle the 50hz refresh rate, just the stock rom doesn't let you set it, it uses dynamic refresh rate. |

Steam DECK's 1280x800 resolution is perfect for Amiga emulation. It means fullscreen for 320x200-games (because with width*4 and height*4 that's 1280x800). And it's also great for PAL games as 256*3 = 768 (there's room for overscan of up to 10 more lines since 266*3 = 798).
You get full-speed WinUAE with all bells and whistles. Now let's hope the screen somehow supports 50Hz. |

If it's Windows-based, you might want to try "CRU" to force a 50hz refresh rate. On the GPD Win 2, I just get a black screen, so the screen cannot handle a custom refresh rate.
I'm very happy with Retroarch on the Razer Phone 2. The 1440 x 2560 resolution may not seem perfect, but at that resolution, you don't seem to need integer scaling anymore. I'm getting a GPD Win 3, which is expensive, but quite powerful. |

Yes, I hope CRU works. That GPD Win 3 looks nice indeed with the integrated keyboard.
