Games that take forever to load

So what games allowed you to make supper, cut the grass and run to the shops while loading.

I'll start the ball rolling with

Last ninja 3
Dragons Breath (horrible F.A.S.T. message that seemed to hang on the screen for ever)
Pretty well most of the Psygnosis games that refused to let you skip the intro

Has anyone actually timed some loading times ?

Very long loading times had Powermonger.

And of course, not to forget Walker, which fits to your Psygnosis note.

I remember Wizkid taking forever to load (at least the cracked version I had did anyway).

Most games still take ages to load, even the WHDLoad versions. It seems the slaves emulate the loading delays, I wish they did not :-(

WHDLoad does not emulate any loading delays, loading is practically instant, except if the files are compressed which will take a little bit of time.

What you might be referring to is built in game delays where a game may fade up a title screen for a few seconds, then wait 15 seconds while the game loaded. With WHDLoad, the load is instant but the delay is still there. But that's not WHDLoad's fault. The slave author often replaces long delays with a buttonwait tooltype delay.

King's Quest V had horrible loading times, in addition to being horribly sluggish to play. IIRC it would even have you insert the same disk twice or more during the same loading sequence, instead of just getting everything it needed from each disk before asking for the next.

The Crystal crack of Striker was diabolically slow.

I ended up recracking that one for LSD I think.

I think I'd rather have my teeth pulled than play Beneath a Steel Sky from floppy disk. The coverdisk demo was appalling too. Luckily I had a HD by then

I'd imagine Rise of the Robots was pretty bad too... but that's not such an issue as nobody would play that more than once
