The notorious Soundtracker ST-01 disk

Here's a question for you old sceners/musos...

Does anyone know which synth Karsten Obarski sampled his sounds from for the original ST-01 Soundtracker sample disk?

He's fairly elusive so asking him personally is probably out of the question, but I thought it might be a nice idea to replay his classic scores (Amegas, Rallye Master, Sleepwalk, Sarcophaser, etc.) through the original synthesizer to hear how they were intended to sound.

Funbass! Popsnare2! Pingbells! Dreambells! Ahhvox! Sixtease!

Does anyone know?

Cheers for that, but as Kodoichi says, I was wondering which keyboard/synth module was used to make those samples...

Would be great to hear the original Soundtracker tunes played back using nice crisp 44.1Khz stereo sounds.

Not in ADF format, but you can get them here : http://protracker.de/pages/disks_st-...s.php?offset=0 (or directly on Aminet). Shouldn't be too hard to copy the samples to an ADF.

I believe it has already identified where the samples came from already. Its different presets from a variety of dynths. I remember seeing a site or post which found them all.

There was a big discussion here a while ago about these disks, it appears that we have not really been able to find the ORIGINAL ST-0X disks yet, what's online is a mixed bag of further releases with altered disk, or at best, we cannot confirm they are the original Soundtracker ones.

Can't speak on Mark's behalf, but if you were messing with the Amiga in Europe between '87-'89, you will have been exposed to a large amount of music made with these samples.

Large is an understatement: Same as Sachs almost singlehandledly defined Amiga Graphics, ST-01 was literally THE sound of Amiga together with David Whittaker music in those years!

Yes but notorious means it was well known for a negative reason.... surely the samples weren't that bad?

Not bad, as such - just cliché. By the early 90s there were *so* many samples out there - and the hardware to make your own was relatively affordable - that the ST-01 samples became associated with "low effort" - a bit like seeing a printed document set in Calibri.
