A590 / A2091 interchangeable chips ?

I'm wondering if anybody knows whether or not the ROM Chips on the A590 and the A2091 are interchangeable?

Right now I have the following ROMs in my A2091:
U12: 390509-01 v5.92
U13: 390508-01 v5.92

While in my A590 I've got:
U12: 390722-02 v6.6
U13: 390721-02 v6.6

The numbers don't match exactly, but everything I've read indicates that these controllers are essentially the same (except that one is for the A500 and one is for the A2000). They even show up the same when you look at them using "Show Config" (in the Tools Drawer of WB 2.1 or 3.1). For both controllers it seems that v6.6 or v7.0 ROMs are preferred, and since my A2000 is newer / cleaner / populated with more RAM than my A500, I figured that I'd like to have the newer ROMs in there.

Now, that said, the fact is that I've never had any trouble with the A2091 as it is (or the A590 for that matter) and I am happily using a different 500MB SCSI Drive on each controller.

So (of course) part of my personality is screaming: "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!", while another part is saying: "Hey, lets fiddle arround with this a little!"

If anybody has ever swapped the ROMs between these 2 cards before, please let me know....

Whilst I think you should be fine interchanging those ROMS (I also have a 590 and a 2091), I would urge you to listen to that screaming voice!! it really is good advice. cheers m

The hardware is essentially identical, you can swap most chips.

I'd suggest you configure your 2091 to have the newer ROM chips and the DMAC-2, if possible. (I guess that's the one you'll be using most?)

An even better option would be the Guru ROM. :-)

If you're not comfortable with pulling out PLCC chips, etc, you might want to consult a more experienced friend. Those PLCC sockets are rather brittle.
