Kid Chaos glitch

possibly another one
Kid Chaos, if runned on default OCS system (like A500 512k chip + 512k slow ks1.3)

the first disk is enough to test, just reach ingame, and the gfx is broken

to be sure i have tried with the ipf disk1

i havent tried yet with the latest beta, but with beta8, official 5, and 4.10

it was ok long time ago here

forgot to say : default config, best compatibility and cycle exact

Isn't this the usual HW OCS bug problem with high numbered sprites and DDFSTRT too low?
Try it on ECS and I'm pretty sure it works fine, should be tested on a real OCS machine to confirm.

(it is not significant that it worked well a long time ago, probably at that time WinUAE was not yet right)

It does:

The manual mentions 'A500' on page 5 though: https://amiga.abime.net/games/view/kid-chaos#manuals

Ok, it can be a good reason for further checks
But the A500s KS1.3 with ECS Agnus were very popular (I had one too after my 1987 OCS KS1.2).

Real machine OCS test required..

i have played it on original ks1.2 too back in the day, same extra 512k slow, it was OCS

i have also tried to replicate the exact configs i had bitd + exact crack i played, but the glitch is still there on WinUAE

yes it does happens only in OCS
def a fresh confirm should be great

Ok, I looked at the sprite list of the game very quickly and, although some glitches in the scoring area may occur, not so much should be there in the central area of the video.

So wait for possible further developments on the issue (which may not even exist, and the behavior will be confirmed ).

Most important part is missing: is that 5.1 beta introduced bug? (if not, this is wrong thread)

but then i also tried on official 5 and 4.10 and it is still there

so yes, maybe needs an appropriate thread

Glitch appears on real A1000. (Easier for me to do A1000 test than OCS A500)

Perhaps there was also fixed version?

thanks for the test and for the dedicated thread

interesting, now i would like my real adf set closer to check again

for sure i have played this on two A500 OCS bitd, both one drive and 512 slow added ram; one kick1.2 and one 1.3;

it was a trained version, cause i always used infinite time

i could check next time ill go to my birth town, there i still have hardware and disks

Certainly if there is a version designed for OCS some things must be different.
While some magic could be done for the central screen stripe glitch, I can't think of any easy way for the scores and similar (other than moving the bitplanes fetch completely and cut off a little portion of the screen).
Furthermore, the deliberate use of forced BEAMCON0/PAL in the copper list and of DIWHIGH suggests a game born and tested in ECS.

@kremiso, do you happen to remember if the score overlay was narrower (or even absent and positioned off-screen), or the whole screen narrower?

Probably that's why it worked. Many cracked games were also fixed to work e.g. with OCS/ECS/AGA (if there were issues with any), Kickstart 1.3/2.0/3.1 etc.

something narrower?
not the full screen area used on my crt iirc, but really nothing noticeable graphically

def i need to phisically try it again

I checked trained versions in TOSEC and all of them have the glitch.

Are you really sure your A500 had OCS Agnus? Perhaps someone had swapped the KS chip? (A500 ECS Agnus + OCS Denise + 0.5M chip + 0.5M slow was common factory configuration)

the first kick1.2 machine yes, there wasn't ECS yet when i bought it;
it has english manuals and original Workbench 1.2 disks;
512k and one drive, i added later a non Commodore extra 512 slow

the 1.3 now im not 100% sure, but i have played very few this other set, my cousin gived it to me years later

ill share some pics of the hw labels when ill have the possibility (better the motherboard maybe?)

Is it the very same version as SPS_1140?
Or are there 2 different revisions for the A500?

I'd bet money it was never playtested on OCS.

By the time that game came out, OCS would have been the smallest size of the Amiga market surely?

Kickstart 1.2 all of them and early Kickstart 1.3
