Would you rather have Doom or Grind running on standard A500?
Inspired by this post: https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php...24#post1690024
I'm genuinely curious which people prefer. |

Doom on Amiga 500 would have crappy graphics regardless of how it's ported, even if it runs on a 68040. And Grind is its own thing entirely (As much as people want to compare it to Doom), so...neither one of them

having our own thing which is somewhat comparable to Doom past being just a Wolfenstein clone would be ideal so I hope the engine can grow a little past what it is now. Great though it clearly is and apparently the engine does support heights

So far it's 6-0 to Grind (to a great surprise of no one, I suppose )
So the assertion that "vast majority / 80%" of community would prefer Doom seems somewhat unscientific |

Both. Something new that's well made is always good, while Doom on a very low spec Amiga is very interesting from a technical perspective.

Doom has better fascination and a thousand of mods. Of course Engine must be remade for A500, but what i saw in Citadel, it cannot be so difficult. Grind is good and for sure worth to play with it. But Doom is Doom.

+1 We already know 1:1 port of Doom on A500 is impossible so next question is how and where do you want the inevitable compromizes to happen and at what point will ppl start complaining its ”not Doom anymore” ;-) |

Grind of course.
Our friend Tsak and his team are creating spectacular game. Quote:
Still, I always really loved texture work on Citadel. I have always wondered why nobody created Amiga Doom clone without using any textures. Something like this, but with much better colors of course. [ Show youtube player ] It should run pretty fast with flat shading, and personally, it would probably look nicer then these low res textures in the early 3D games. There is "Behind the Iron gate" game that do it, but I mean with gameplay more like a Doom. |

With regards to Doom, SNES Doom is basically what an A500 Doom would look like, I think you would still need some more performance cheating techniques but I suspect GRIND will end up looking close to SNES Doom if floor heights are added. What would be really impressive is room over room support, I think the easiest way to implement this would be via silent instant teleportation like Hexen Last edited by Whitesnake; 14 June 2024 at 20:51. |

Defo Grind 100%! It’s a new and exciting development with new art assets, sfx, levels. Doom surely everyone has played it 100 times on various platforms, yes it would be nice to have on the Amiga 500, but most people play Doom on the most convenient way to play it now, not some cut down version just to go oh look thats cool, before going back to a more playable version!

Grind because it's been made for the Amiga from the ground up and runs amazingly well given the hardware limitations of an A500
