My poor, battery acid ravaged A500+

I watched a video yesterday about the particular risk posed to A500+ units with their VARTA batteries, so I opened my old childhood machine up today to find total devastation. This looks really bad, and I would guess it's beyond realistic repair. Am I right?

Any suggestions would be welcome. I like the idea of one of those new motherboards, but I don't have the skills to even think about that (yet). Thanks.

It looks bad, yes, but I don't think it's irreparable. There are some talented folks here who can probably fix it up.

It just takes more time to bring it back, the worse it gets.

I've managed to resurrect worse. It's usually the traces under U12 that go.

I never attempted my repair and a forum user did a great job with fixing it... However, worth starting by clearing the leakage so at least board doesn't worsen.

Then start tracing common areas that fail using the schematics which are available online to see where each track leads and repair as you go along with jumper wires if the chips etc can be used without replacement.

Might also be worth asking Jeeves... sorry that was just a joke based on your username

You can always get a replica board and build it up then transfer your chips....

Get Chuckys 3000 or Heses AA3000.

You will be able to have it fixed but not worth it imho.

Better with an A500++ than a ReAmiga 3000 or AA3000, with those you would have to obtain a number of custom chips that are very hard to get hold of like the Amber chip. Plus, they use a different Agnus chip, 8372B which is not pin compatible with 500+'s 8375 and is harder to get hold of.. Plus a case to put the board in.
