output delay?
has anyone else experienced an output delay related to the joystick fire button when playing games? Wolfchild seems to suffer slightly from a lack of synchronization.

PS2 gamepad & USB converter. works like a charm with console and arcade emulation
perhaps this reaction time delay exists on a real A500 and possibly with other games ? but i'm leaning towards an emulation bug |

Before jumping to conclusions:
- do you get lag if you use keyboard? - make sure you have proper A500 configuration, not some fastest possible setup (and if you do, make sure priority is normal or even below normal) Also make sure this isn't the only game that has lag |

I bought another PS2-to-USB-adapter (for ~8 Euros). And that one is totally lagfree: I can do every Street Fighter supercombo I want. I also experienced in some shoot'em ups the fire came out very, very slightly delayed under WinUAE. Not with the new adapter: I push fire and my bee in Apidya or spaceship in Battle Squadron fires in the (seemingly) exact same moment. Btw., I bought this one: http://www.amazon.de/PC-PlayStation-...221QX8JWVGVE6K (Lagfree converter. Highly recommended! Yay - go converter! ) Before I had one that looked similar to this one: http://www.amazon.de/PSX-Controller-...965287&sr=8-22 (Laggy converter. Has slight delay. Don't buy this one! Crap! ) Btw.: If you want to play with a friend just buy two of the "good" converters. Works a treat. edit: With the "bad" converter the right analog stick didn't work correct. With the "good" converter everything works. Last edited by john4p; 26 January 2009 at 11:30. |

The cheap USB converters seem to share the same characteristic as the Speedlink Competition Pro USB joystick.
I am looking to fix the lag problem with the Competition Pro USB. If anyone has any data relating to the USB chips used in these good and bad adapters, could they please post them (or links to them) here. Thanks. |

I think I've brought this up before, but concerning input lag in WinUAE I'm still experiencing lag from mouse movements (not mouse clicks though). It is similar to what you see in some games using DirectX where it will queue up rendering calls for several frames ahead when it can and consequently your current input is used to render not the immediate frame, but one that is several frames ahead. Any chance WinUAE is using DirectX for some frame handling and that this is related to the lag?

This would appear to indicate that a cheap USB converter is not the only possible cause of this problem.

Just tested it here with WinUAE (latest beta) and there is a small delay with the first punch (only when not 'upgraded' to wolf). It's under 1 sec for sure and only happens with the first punch after a longer non-punching pause (> 5 secs). Seems to like this is game related, but guess it also happens for you when you're upgraded (i.e. 'firing' your fist). Maybe you can use a trainer and check if that also happens with the wolf form (if you haven't already).

As I have expained, I am only looking for as much information as I can get about the possible cause of lag experienced by users of the Speedlink Competition Pro USB joystick, with a view to fixing it. Observations would seem to indicate that the problem is caused by a cheap USB chip, and I can see a similarity between this and comments above about cheap USB converters. Your mention of a similar delay when using the keyboard, would have made this similarity less significant. |

My idea of this "delay" is probably keyboard delay, from USB or wireless... wireless sucks and I've had delay on every mouse and keyboard I've tried that were wireless..... I always use coord myself :P. But, the most common thing when people post problems with games in WinUAE is simply WRONG settings... some games a more sensitive than others, not ALL works perfectly with standard "quickstart" configs. So, if this person (havn't read the posts) is not using wireless or USB adapter, it's probably wrong settings causing the problems. Cycle-Exact is the first thing that comes to mind and should be tried... both on and off.... |
