Panasonic JU-257A605P floppy drive query

Hi all,

my apologies for a total n00b question, but it's been many, many years since I had my Amiga and followed the hard/software upgrades etc.

I've read on the SPS site about modifying an IBM compatible Panasonic JU-257A605P floppy drive to work with an A1200 - now it also mentions that the drive will be compatible with everything from an A500 to A4000.

So stupid question time

- should it also work on an A1000? (considering the A1000 is older than the A500)

- do I need a specific version of Kickstart or WB for it to support HD (1.44MB) floppies or will I be able to read/write them using KS 1.3 or 2.0?

- the drive should be backward compatible to read the Amiga SD disks shouldn't it? (40 tracks?)

- if so, will the drive be able to read original copy protected games?

Im not sure about working on A1000, but i wouldnt have thaught the pinout changed amongst the various amigas, only issue would be the way the drive sits in the case.

Kickstart version wont matter and you wont be able to use it as a HD drive. The a drive ready signal attached it will work fine with all Amiga Doublesided disks and games.

guess the only way I'll really know is mod a drive, install it and see how it goes. I'll report back when I've done it.
