68060 cpu
Does anyone know where to buy a 68060 chip? My searches so far have been
unsuccessful. Genuine one only, of course! |

There is a big difference in heat between the Rev1 XC68060RC50 and Rev6 MC68060RC50
If you can get a Rev6 (it will have number E41J on the chip) it will run cooler and overclock better. There was someone in Germany selling reclaimed rev6 68060 for about €50 but I've not seen him active in a few years. Might be worth tracking him down http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayIS...id=banshee121& Some nasty chinese resellers seeing a large markup on these devices have been remarking Rev1 060's and even 040's as rev6 060's so take care. There is an earlier Rev1 XC68060RC50 for sale here for €50 and the vendor has good feedback.

Not sure about sources but for sure this is not official distribution channels for Freescale - 68060 is expensive CPU as it was used in military and industrial equipment - mostly VME and this is why it is still offered and why it is so expensive -always you can try cheaper but not genuine sourced CPU - there are companies in India and China that specialized dismantling old PCB and recover chips:

Its a 68000 based enterprise server bus of the 1970's and 80s. Think cage and backplane and boards
The Atari Mega STe had a VME bus as did the Atari TT |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VMEbus
This standard is used very frequently by industrial automation solution - for example lot of railways, subways are equipped with VME based solutions to control traffic at lowest level (sensors, signals, actuators etc). |
