SetPatch 44+ copyright string

I hate the fact that SetPatch 44+ has dropped this copyright string "Copyright (c) 1985-1993 Commodore-Amiga, Inc. All Rights Reserved."

That's why I stick with the old setpatch by Commodore.

Now, I'm wondering if someone can hack setpatch 44+ in order to put back the old copyright string.

PeterK ?? Anyone ??

I'm a Commodore purist.
I can't stand post-bankruptcy stuff, especially the use (and misuse) of the Amiga brand name!

Er... I bet the string was removed for a reason? Why does a string in the file matter anyway?

Don't use 44+ then.

As I said in my initial post, it's exactly what I'm doing!

The reason being, well-known post-bankruptcy companies wanting to capitalize (speculate) on a dead corpse.

Phew!

Can you imagine if someone did edit it and you used 44...

Sure you'd see the text you wanted, but deep down, deep down inside you'd know it didn't belong there.

You'd be fine for days, maybe weeks, heck maybe even a few months or a year, but it'd be there in the back of your mind.

It'd keep bugging you.

Like a heartbeat under the floorboards, beating louder and louder each day.

Until the day finally comes when you can't take anymore. You get an axe, smash open the floorboards, and gape into the hole you've created.

Staring back at you you see a dead Amiga laying there.

Then what?

HUH?!?!

What the hell have you done?!?!?!

Guess you should just stick to the Commodore version and forget that there ever was any update then...

Which update are u talking about ? os 3.9 ? os 4 ?

Instead, I'm in favour of things that the community of amiga enthusiasts are doing, eg. a boing ball 4, a new iconlib by peterk, Cammy 's amazing visual prefs themes (and palette) etc. I also like Aros !

1.) Any means any.
2.) It's BoingBag.
3.) Good luck, but maybe you should look up 'copyright' on Google.

Get Filex from Aminet
http://aminet.net/disk/moni/filex-2.4-amigaos.lha

Then only replace each letter of the Copyright message by your own (dont overwrite anything else), and you will be set.

But remember, that after that you will be suffering the "killergorilla axe smash" syndrome.

AmigaOS 3.5 BB2 contains workbench.library 44.1559 (8.9.2000), get it from
http://os.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=de&page=18

BoingBag #3 (which is for AmigaOS 3.9) contains workbench.library 45.131, not the 40.x you mentioned. Get it from http://lilliput.amiga-projects.net/bbag3isdone.htm

Hmm, V44 was made by Haage&Partner in 1999 or so, AFAIK, Commodore-Amiga was already dead for long at that time. Correct me, if I'm wrong. But I've lost about 9000 DM (German Mark) with my Commodore shares in those days when they finally went bankrupt.

Since that time when I lost my money I don't care about the Copyright of the AmigaOS anymore in terms of paying for any software again. The last thing I bought was Workbench and Kickstart 1.3.

Sure, I could change the Copyright string of SetPatch, workbench.library or even icon.library but I don't want to start a lawsuit. Btw, these two libraries have been written by Olaf (Olsen) Barthel. Sorry, I don't know the author of SetPatch v44. Icon.library will become completely OpenSource as soon as I've finished rewriting it.

But why should someone care about a non-existing Copyright ??

You've gotta be joking about a lawsuit. Even if this joke of a company gave a shit about the Amiga, they couldn't afford to take someone to court.

Let me know if you have any trouble modifying it, I'd be happy to do it for you.

Sorry, but the costs for a lawsuit must be payed by the loser, and modifying a Copyright will always be illegal, I guess. So, whoever the damned owner of the Copyright actually is, their lawyers could even earn some money in such a case.
