Unhappy

I just finished a long session at KNIGHTAMRE, where I got to stage 7. I have to honestly say it's not a great experience ... unfortunately ... The game is incredibly difficult and the only thing that will help you progress will be the possibility to continue indefinitely. Otherwise there is no other way, you die at every step with the hope that the rescue will take us a little further ... Again, really a shame because it could have been a good title, but in this way it is just frustrating.

I also report to Toni and Hoffman that always at level 7 we reach a bridge that our avatar does not cross. There are two bridges to be extracted in sequence towards the end of the level, the second is inaccessible, as if there is a break line.

Did you use the shops? If not these are the key to making things a little easier and was the reason I added them as they are not in the original game.

I got your bug report from the blog but the reply failed. Can you please confirm the hardware you are playing on and any upgrades or accelerators you are running.

It's a shame you didn't take a picture of the level 7 bridge section because honestly there isn't a problem here. I've tested the level and I've even been sent a video of the game being completed. It's most likely you've missed something or there is an upgrade on your machine causing an issue with the game code.

SHOP!?!?!?!?!?!
And where are they? I have not seen a trace in seven levels ...
The machine I play on is an Amiga 1200 with Vampire V1200
Two posts above you find a KNIGHTMARE live video test running.

Shops are hidden of course but very easy to find..

Anyways, someone has sent me a video on the bridge issue so will investigate that.

I found the shop 2 times in Level 1 and 2, but I played the game on a standard A1200/030.
It was a surprise to me becasue the original MSX version has no shop

For my experience playing in hardware like V4 (which I own) games generally behave differently, it's the case of latest Scoopex Wrath of the Demon.
So I played it on original hardware and Minimig Core on MiST which is very reliable.

So quick update on bug fixes..

- Bridge on level 7

Seem that when starting a level part way through all of the QBlocks were out by 1 pixel. Oddly this didn't seem to matter except on level 7 near the end where the slight offset position caused an issue with the collision map. This is now fixed. Thanks to Biscuit for the video, really helpful.

- Player hit box

Seem I never noticed this but the player hit box was never centralised. Was out by 3 pixels in both directions! Quick check of the disassembly shows exactly what I missed. Thanks to Shadow Gangs on twitter for finding this.

New ADF available on the page and on itch.io

Thanks for the update. Assuredly, a classic on the MSX.

That was a quick fix.

Really enjoying this. Once I've learnt the levels and got the hang of powering up I will hopefully not be restarting quite as often.

Some tips...

Speed power-up, dark blue, is essential for dodging you're way out of situations. Upgrade to level 2 at least.
Shield power-up is also a must. It will consume enemy bullets so use that to your advantage! If an enemy hits the shield it will destroy it in one hit.
The shops are on every level and you'll usually find them on the far right and far left.
Gradius power-up is on even numbered stages.
I'd recommend the sword weapon for all levels.

Maybe with a lot of work but not by me. Source code is available if you want to have a crack at it.

So I completed KNIGHTMARE in release 1.1 aided by the shops that allow you to have an upgrade throughout the game. I found the shops in levels 1-5-8 but only in the first I was able to shop. I then discovered shooting like crazy at every corner of the screen other power-ups including one (no spoiler) that left me speechless!

However, we do not think that finding KNIGHTAMERE stores and power-ups becomes a walk, this game is damn hard and does not give anything to anyone, with bosses that will put a strain on our mental freshness.

ADVICE:
- As reported by HOFFMAN, the sword is the best weapon, when double it becomes lethal.
- Always try to have speed as your first Power-up, being agile in KNIGHTMARE is a fundamental thing together with transparency (white "P" stamp).
