PCMCIA to scsi cards
Hi
Just a quick question concerning PCMCIA to scsi cards, and I guess PCMCIA cards in general. Do 16 bit PCMCIA to scsi cards need a driver to work, or do they have on board smarts so they just work on plug in? Or (as I suspect) does it depend on the card? Thanks in advance. |

I have a Squirrel SCSI PCMCIA card, so i can only speak for that, but it does load a driver from a disk as part of the setup. Works a treat though |

It depends on the card and unfortunately no drivers exist for the majority of PCMCIA SCSI cards.

Many thanks for the replies, sadly the squirrel is a hard card to find, and expensive when you do. I don't even know if they are still being made. Amigakit are out of stock with a note saying tba on their web site
. I suppose that there isn't a list of cards that do have drivers anywhere? It would help a lot if there was. |

I have a squirrel somewhere ast my mums that I used to use until the cd drive died that was connected to it.
It was far easier to get up and running than the ide cd I have now. I guess if you found what scsi chip was on the squirrel another card with the same chips might work with the squirrel drivers? |

I've an old squirrel scsi card with a broken connector, looking at the card, it's a very simple double-sided board using a zilog scsi chip (Z53C80) and a bit of 74 series logic.
Kinda surprised nobody has produced any more? |
