Another (maybe stupid) question.

Why dosent a HDF work/show up on Kickstart 2.05 ?

I tried for hours. Made HDF´s in WinUAE in Workbench 2.05 which work fine in WINUAE but wont show up on the MIST with kick2.05 (until i use a 3.1 rom)

This is for a very small patition with "problematic games" like Soul Crystal and KGB wich love KS2.0 )

If anybody has a HDF with 30-50 MB that works/boots/shows up in Kickstart 2.05 let me know

Greetings

I've tried it on MiSter with something called "Kick20" and it worked (KGB got kinda stuck on some question in German though, the other game was ok).

Btw, I'm not sure we're supposed to attach hdfs with WB here...(or maybe I'm just paranoid)

Strange. It uses even the old filesystem (for ks2.0 and below) and should work, but doesnt on Mist.

Hmm, about that "sharing thing ",,, Well, its for science !!! -- and its old !! ok ok, i better remove it, just in case ( i did forgot to write BorderBlank into the startup sequence anyways .... )

Still; does anybody have/ or can make a HDF that works with kickstart 2.0, total empty, about 40 MB.
That would nice

Mist & Mister do not support Kickstart 2.05, Only 1.3 & 3.1

https://github.com/rkrajnc/minimig-mist

minimig-mist - Core features supported
chipset variants : OCS, ECS, AGA
chipRAM : 0.5MB - 2.0MB
slowRAM : 0.0MB - 1.5MB
fastRAM : 0.0MB - 24MB
CPU core : 68000, 68010, 68020
kickstart : 1.2 - 3.1 (256kB, 512kB & 1MB kickstart ROMs currently supported)

https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Minimig-AGA_MiSTer

Minimig-AGA_MiSTer - Core features supported
chipset variants : OCS, ECS, AGA
chipRAM : 0.5MB - 2.0MB
slowRAM : 0.0MB - 1.5MB
fastRAM : 0.0MB - 384MB
CPU core : 68000, 68020
kickstart : 1.2 - 3.1 (256kB, 512kB & 1MB kickstart ROMs currently supported)

If you're keen on using A600 have you tried KS ROM v3.1 (A500,A600,A2000) rev 40.63 (512k) instead?

I tried, 68000, ECS, 2MB Chip, 8MB Fast, KS ROM v3.1 (A500,A600,A2000) rev 40.63 (512k) and got KGB.hdf working fine on my Mister (KGB.hdf Also works with 68020 1200 KS31 with my mister)

Hi Ransome

Well, that explains why i had no success

You see, Soul Crystal NEEDS kickstart 2.0, otherwise it has some weird colours.
For KGB exists a WHDLoad slave, but only works with the full disk images and is super slow.
The Native install of KGB "works best" on kickstart 2.0. That was the reason i wanted that small 2.0 HDF.

Hmm, maybe a custom rom would work; never tried that before ...

Man... can somebody please make a WHDLoad slave for Soul Crystal
and a slave for KGB that loads Files instead of hole disks. Problem solved

Anyway, thank you very much Ransom

Confirm, Kick 37.350 or 37.300 work on Minimig for MiST.

You probably have Kickstart 2.05 revision 37.299 which doesn't support the internal IDE hard drive interface.

(WinUAE uses its own built-in uaescsi.device by default, unless you specifically set it to emulate IDE - so if the same ROM works in WinUAE, that might be why.)

You might be right, I recall only seeing one 2.05KS I wasn't aware of another one, I'll give it a go when I get some time

Wow never knew there where so many Kickstart 2.05 versions
I used 2.05 rev 37.300.

The strange thing is, i could swear it worked once
After thinkering with the 2.05 KS/Workbench HDF in a 3.1 Setup on Mist.

It worked on 2.05 Mist. Then stupid me thought; ohh lets change the MaxTransfer setting to 0x1FE00 , with the 2.05 hd toolbox.

After reset, BÄM ... RESET LOOP.

i said.... FF F F F f f f f f f f f f uuuu u uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu *censored*

Stupid SMURF !!! NEVER CHANGE A RUNNING SYSTEM !!!

Since then, i could never recreate this

Just for that obscure SOUL CRYSTAL game

It works with KS-Rom 2.05 rev 37.350 !!! ; and was not working with my 37.300 (newest Firmware & AGA Core)

First try and my small 2.05 Kickstart Workbench HDF loaded

(hmm, I own Kickstart 37.300; have it around some where here; from my original A600. Is it "ok" to use 37.350.. or would it be... well "trouble" )

I did it for science anyway and i am happy to report it works

Hopefully, i wont face the wrath of the Amiga community

Another (maybe stupid) question.

If i save the Video settings like in picture 1,
why is it, that after a new start of the Mist it changes to the setting like in Picture 2 ?

The Lo-Res and Hi-Res H+V Filter are essential to my LCD BenQ Setup and save correctly.

But if i try Dither Filters; just for fun and save that, it comes up without dither, but black scanlines after a "Power On" MIST Start.
Dont need the Dither, nor Scanlines (still nice options tho )

Why dosent it save correctly ?

A Bug ?

Another one of those "stupid questions" about Mist FPGA

How to get the middle mouse button to work ?

I use a very generic but highly stylish USB mouse but the middle mouse button won´t work.

Not that tragic but it would be neat for a few things here and there.

Thanks for any help

Torti

Another Question.

IS it possible that a New Firmware can have a "bad influence" on the MiniMIG Core ?
(i guess so; but maybe somebody knows for sure)

I only updated the Firmware to the most recent version, (240105)
but Clown-O-Mania hangs now at the STARBYTES Logo with a super high pitched Sound.

FREEZE.

not a contribution or answer to the thread really but I recently got a Mist 1.5 having wanted to try FPGA for a long while

I must say that the experience has been entirely positive and the £200 I paid has given me a great value product I feel because of so many well working cores. I was initially banking on just C64 and Amiga and that alone would have made for a great purchase but having 2600, Atari 800 etc, Spectrum and so on justifies this little box. Quick booting and to any core as default like having the machine right there with no fussing of something like Retropie

Got a bunch of Pi's but Retropie or any of the launcher take their time booting in and this lessens the experience for me. I primarily don't like to use pc for emulation either because getting to the emulator from the desktop just feels like exactly what I'm doing which is playing an emulator sat in front of my pc. Not that I'm against emulators themselves and I'll always use emulators but there's something to be said for getting closer to how something used to feel. I have a couple of pi set up for example purely for BMC64 and Amibian which are straight booting especially BMC64 and are great ways to play these machines in an environment free from anything but the machines of choice

Regarding the FPGA though, I would certainly suggest at least trying one at some stage because it's a different feel

The only criticism I have of the Amiga core is that it would be nice to also have the choice to run at 14Mhz rather than at full speed which seems to be around the speed of an A3000 perhaps. Some games benefit from just a little cpu increase but running at full speed is too fast sometimes. But I can fall back to Amibian for anything like this

It's also nice not to run into the same issues that Winuae sometimes has with certain games like It came from the Desert which I struggle to run properly no matter what I do. I'm sure there's the perfect answer for that but it's great it just runs here

Then there's the fact you're not dealing with control latency or any latency I guess being that the logic is instant through the chips. I think I'm starting to feel just a little of that as I go between the two when comparing

Either way we run the Amiga though, it's nice we can in so many ways

Hi Adropac.

I know what you mean; alot of things that dont work for me with WinUAE, do so on the Mist,
and with this recent core (not yet published)

https://www..com/file/q7xrxjw30vb3gi0/Core.rbf/file
even better

It reminds me ALOT of my favortite Amiga setup ever. A Amiga 1200 with a 68030 50mhz. (the mist is even faster)
(had a RTG 060 system back then, but i always though the 68030 50 was the sweet spot)

I tried also the Mist 1.5 but i did not like the colours as much as on the 1.4.
(maybe it was just my Test 1.5 unit)

About my Clown oh Mania "Problem"
I think my SanDisk is dying. (barely one year old)

Think the controller on this SD has gone bad, because when i try to delete a file from this SD windows tells me it is ZERO in size. Thats not normal !!!

Tried also diskpart and the SD Formater tool. Always the same result.
I get a new card tomorrow. Fingers crossed

PS: EAB for some reason blocks my M E D I A F I R E link; dont know why.
If you want that core (latest, fastest, Demo specific effect fixed .. ect)

You have to write M E D I A F I R E between the www. and .com

You have to write it together.. of course.

Greetings, Torti
