DiskDupe, once lost - now found :)

This might come handy for floppy (more recently named .adf) dumpers..

I wrote this program just a while ago, before .adf was invented .. Never released that program because of a bad disk crash (first DeathStar, followed by Samsung), on which I thought I lost just about every recently updated source code..

The purpose of this undocumented program was to utilize all available floppy drives, to either read or write all disks at the same time.. Probably not a good idea to write to the same destination file, but it could read the same and make four copies, or read from all the drives, dumping the content to separate image files.

Uses gadutil.library that I and a friend wrote (last revision) 22 years ago.

I will prepare DiskDupe and upload it to the zone, "really soon"
There is no (possibly not needed) documentation, might be that reason I never sent it to Aminet..
Might have to update that "About" box ... my address is 23 years old

The disk icon should be a part of GlowIcons (this is just a pre-installation of WB3.1 running on Amiga Forever).

Right after this message, I will upload the (new) binary and the assembly language source code for DiskDupe.

I've read through the code, and noticed that it is incomplete. Mainly two things missing:
- Verify does not do anything (it's a toggle-button, and that's the only thing it does)
- The "Stop" button is not programmed to do anything (other than set the progress to 50%, which I first thought was a bug).

To rebuild the binary, you need some assembler. I used Asm-Pro today when I updated some info in the code. You will also need my include file (it's on Aminet), LVOs.i, as well as the standard NDUK include files. You will also need to set the environment variable DATE to some date (otherwise it will fail to include env:date). You can do this manually or use RevTimer from Aminet.

I think this source code might serve as a good assembly language programming example, as well as an example for gadutil.library by myself and Staffan.

The output format is "adf" a few years before it was invented/named

Hi PeO,

Cool :-)

BTW: The closest to any doc or readme, can be seen in "Aminet_21\AMINET\DEV\GUI\GUTILHTML.LHA\HTML\picdocs\DiskDupe.html"

with

A yet to be released disk duplicater. This program program works with
up to 4 floppy drives at the same time. The disk is written to a disk
to, or read from, an disk image file of exactly 901120 bytes. The program
uses one of my own extensions to the AppWindow - AppGadgets... drag and
drop filenames into the string gadgets .

"Really soon now"

It was mentioned as a part of the gadutil.library documentation. That was until I found the source on a backup CD all the traces I could find of the program (which I knew I had used "recently" on my A4000D).
Didn't remember that "AppGadget" trick I made, but it's there, maybe something similar has been done in more recent applications..
