Which Zorro Gfx card to buy???

Hello all,

I've got an A4000D which I want to fit a graphics card to. Which one is the best o buy?? It looks to be between a Picasso iV and a Cybervision 64/3D from what I have read. (or I guess it could be neither...)

I dont really have a need for one, I just want one, and I want the best one. Which one do I get???

Oh yeah, I just have the stock 3640.

ofcourse 1st choise is the PicassoIV and after the Cybervision64 (NOT the cv64/3D, just plain cv64, it is actually faster...) then as a third choise there is cv64/3D and the piccoloSD64 ... all are good cards, I ranked them in terms of speed... the pIV is excellent, and it has built-in sd/ff ...
the cv64/3d sd/ff is 16bit and you loose some color detail...
good 24bit sd/ff are the Arxon/Compserv ones and the petsoff dblscan4000...

Ace. I've got an Arxon already, so the plain old Cybervision 64 sounds like the way to go.

Any idea of an average price for a Picasso IV these days??? The single slot idea looks tidy.

a pIV can cost from 250eur to 400+ based on ebay prices... I got mine from a person in amiga.org for 230eur (just place a wanted ad there) ... pIV has also some other advantages... u can add to it a concierto sound card and a paloma tv-tuner... one slingle slot with rtg+sd/ff+sound+tvtuner (with vhs/svhs inputs!) clearly a space saver!!!!

I would have to kinda dissagree a little smidge with the keropi

Indeed the best is the Picasso IV, but the Cyberstorm 64/3D Mk2 is indeed a very good card (i have one) but this is indeed on an expanded 1200 Zorro 2 backplane.

Just did a bit of reading up on the original card on www.amiga-harware.com
  • Built-in monitor switcher
  • Hardware support for chunky to planar conversion
  • Digital video expansion bus.
it then goes on to say that the Cybervision 64 should not be confused with the Cybervision 64/3D, they are completely different graphics cards.

Wich i just did, sorry keropi-san

Thanks Keropi, but I dont know whether to love you or hate you!!

I just ponied up $US295 for a Picasso IV on Ebay (about EU220) because you made it sound like a bargain. I guess I somehow owe you a beer, but dont think I'll be able to afford it right now.

I hardly use my 4000, but it didn't feel complete without a gfx card. Now to trade the 2065 in on a X-Surf and tidy things up a bit...

I guess I'll have to finally replace the dead mobo in my A2000 so I've got somewhere to plug in the Arxon now. More money. Wouldn't a heroin addiction be cheaper???

Anyway thanks for your feedback Keropi and Zetro.

I guess I can laugh at you for that one, you trumped me on that Cybervision 64 on ebay.au last year!!!!!

I was gonna sweat it out and plop on a $US250 bid and hope for the best, but I remembered that CV64. I wasn't gonna risk losing it for the cost of a carton of beer...

I notice that the PIV that has just sold used to be in an A2000 so it has been "snapped in two" but at least it is coming with the cables.

If it makes you feel better Cose the reserve was well over $150 (This card has failed to sell on several other occaisions).

Well the CV64 would have been fine, as I already have an Arxon.

But I would have been spewing if you beat me again.

Ebay sucks. I've spent nearly two grand on this old silicon since xmas.
