Can't open icon information, execute a command, create a new drawer, etc.
I have a rev 6a Amiga 500 with a 512K RTC expansion and a PiStorm and KS 3.2 ROM. 1meg of ChipRAM and 128meg of FastRAM. I just did a fresh installation of AmigaOS 3.2 yesterday. The machine was working fine.
Today I started some simple installations and customization. Now when I right-click -> Execute command, nothing happens. Same with a right-click -> Information or right-click -> New Drawer. I'm sure other functions are broken as well. I've attached a couple images of what SnoopDOS shows when I try to execute a command or get information for an icon. Since yesterday (when everything was fine) I have done the following: - Changed from NTSC to PAL monitor - Changed the fonts, color palette and overscan - Changed my locale to Canada with -7 time zone. - Changed my Workbench patterns. - Installed LHA, Dopus v4.16, AWeb, WHDLoad and Next. That is ALL that I have done. What did I do to break the OS? How can I fix it? |

Most likely AWeb broke it. It installs old versions of various ClassAct/Reaction classes without prompting, overwriting the newer versions that ship with 3.2. Everything you’re trying to do is Reaction related, hence why it’s not working.
Restore the contents of SYS:Classes from the 3.2 install media and you should be back to normal. |

It sounds to me like the ToolsDaemon freeze. Have you installed it? Have you applied the OS3.9 patch? This is required for anything above OS3.9.

Quick question... how do I see which version, if any, of ToolsDaemon that I currently have installed? Last edited by Calab; 20 August 2022 at 13:34. |

Oddball thing... I was using the A500 and for some reason everything started working normally again. No changes on my side, not even a restart that I remember.

If you had it it would likely be in your WBStartup drawer. It doesn't sound like you have it anyway, so not to worry! Maybe a reboot fixed your problem?! Anyway, as they say..."if it ain't broke don't fix it".

In the future avoid doing installations of old software on OS 3.2, if you really need to install the software, you have to do it manually so you can see what is being overwritten. |

Found the culprit
Just an update... I redid my hard drive and found that installing AWeb caused the issue. All was well until AWeb was installed.

Without seeing details I would say never choose Novice mode in the installer.
AWeb is based on ClassAct/ReAction. ReAction comes with the OS since 3.5, ClassAct is its predecessor. Your installation of AWeb might contain an early version of ClassAct. Installing it defacto is a downgrade of the classes which makes most of the OS programs to fail. Choosing Advanced or Expert mode in the installer might give you the opportunity to refuse the installation of ClassAct. AWeb will run anyway because it then uses the newer classes from ReAction. |

I don't know how you guys do it, but before installing any software, since I don't trust the installers to ask me everything, I update outdated files by hand before installing. This way my updated files do not get replaced.
