Clock port on my A600 chip mem expansion?

I own a trap door expansion for my A600 identical to the one below:

The 22-pin interface looks like a clock port. Is this indeed the case and what uses would it have on my A600 with the following specs?

68k cpu
2MB chip
4MB fast (potentially 8mb if I choose to ditch PCMCIA)
KS3.1
BW's Classic WB3.1 for 68k

Would I be able to install some kind of USB interface for use with laser mice, external keyboard and memory sticks?

Yes, its a clockport which could be used for Delfina or SilverSurfer. USB with Poseidon requieres '030 at min but theres some basic stack called anaiis (http://aminet.net/package/driver/other/anaiis).

The Subway USB controller requires 030+ with Poseidon. But there is an alternative USB stack for the Thylacine board which is reported to work with Subway called Anaiis.

Plus you have to remember that Native USB only works in Workbench applications. Your USB keyboard and laser mouse would not work in games or WHDload.

As for memory sticks, you can get a PCMCIA->CF adapter + CF card + USB reader for a fraction of the price of a Subway.

You could possibly use a KickFlash... but again unknown, ask the authors http://www.jschoenfeld.com

USB doesn't sound viable then. Other uses? I understand that you have to kill someone really important in order to get your hands on a 030 board for A600 these days? And then it probably runs hot like hell

Runs very hot, indeed. Not über rare, but hard to come by. Owners don't tend to sell it easily.

Of course, very expensive. Last one was sold for over £300 on Amibay a couple of months ago.

I'll pass on the 030 and opt for a space shuttle instead.

Somebody smarter than me once wrote on this forum that the cheapest and most effective upgrade for an A500/A600 is an A1200. I'm taking his words into consideration xP

If you want to use a Laser mouse you can get a USB->PS2->Amiga mouse adapter for about £12-30

Google for : COCOLINO/Punchinello/EZMouse, PeST or Eiffel

(If you buy a PeST or Eiffel you must ensure that it is the Amiga version)

Because it plugs into the mouse port it is 100% compatible with everything (unlike USB).

I did consider the Cocolino once but I have heard that these adapters have a hard time fitting the A600 physically. Is this true?

Depends on the adapter. The micromys v3 will fit an A600 and C-64 fine.

Yes it is true. The mouse/joystick ports on the A600 are slightly recessed and very close together with no secure fittings.



They are designed to take moulded 9-pin D connectors with no securings



The shroud on the adapter can be too large for the recess or have protrusions. And the connector's secure "wings" for screwing it in can block access to the joystick port or not physically fit with the slope of the keyboard.



You just need to get the right one. Or buy an dual port "Extender" designed for Atari ST(e).

If Jope says the Micromys V3 fits then consider that one? (From the photo it looks too wide but who am I to argue with Jope!)

Oh, Alex you are correct, the Micromys will also hit the slope on the A600 case.. I was only thinking about the C-64, where it fits fine.

It doesn't have the little clips that hold the D connector back though, so you could just file the corner of the connector until it fits in place.
