Using tools to obtain RTB file for my KS 37.350
Hi there,
In Skick aminet file, RTB and PAT files for some KS versions are missing. I need to softkick a particular KS version, 37.350, so I'm on a quest to obtain the PAT and RTB files to do so. Using MKick included tools, I got this far: -Using MakeKick on my kick205.rom file (wich is KS 37.350) I got the corresponding kick205.rom.kick. Good! -Now, using Kick2RTB on kick205.rom (the file kick205.rom.kick is automatically detected and used), I get the PAT file, but no RTB. In fact, the Kick2RTB program says: Code:
RTB file: none PAT file: OK Thanks! |

The .RTB files can't be generated automatically, at least not in a reliable way.

Leffman: I would be happy to try the unreliable way, then. Can you give me a clue?

I think JOTD maintaines them - I could do with one for ks1.3 and SCSI.device

@Boo Boo: Are you saying you're able to make RTBs??
would you please do one for 37.350 (2.05 from A600HD) also or instead, please? The one I need is for 37.350 as it has A600 SCSI.device and it boots from HD at 28 MHz (unlike 1.3 with SCSI.device, wich only boots from HD at lower CPU speeds). |

Then I should move this request to the support.WHDLoad section, I guess, as these RTB files are now part of the Whdload resources.

[Request] RTB file for KS 37.350
Since JOTD seems to be the maintainer of skick these days, and since RTB / PAT files are an important part of the Whdload project, I'd like to ask for an RTB for a given KS version, 37.350, so I can soft-kick it.
It's for a Minimig HDF project with disk DOS games wit 4-5 disks wich don't work right on Whdload because the Minimig doesn't have enough RAM, and must be run on 2.x ks when not using Whdload. I want them to load with a simple script without people having to change KS from the Minimig menu. So, please, could I have a KS 37.350 RTB file? Thanks! |

We have never created RTB files, only converted some from the MKick package to the RTB format used in the SKick package.
I don't understand why you don't use the kick400063.A600. It has the same size and should contain all you need. |

Wepl: because kick400063.A600 is a 3.x KS and some games (Elvira I & II, Barbarian) don't work at all or have problems and glitches with 3.x KS, while they work PERFECTLY with 2.x KS.
Now, 2.04 (KS 37.175 for example) doesn't have the SCSI.device needed by the Minimig while 2.05 (KS 37.350) has everything I need AND it makes the games play great. Now again, the Minimg CAN load a new KS from it's OSD, but I'm making an HDF where everything works without the users having to guess what KS version they have to use. Then again, I could use WHdload for these games, but: -The Barbarian Whdload slave is broken in 68000 Amigas. -The Elvira I & II slaves won't preload with the small Minimig RAM. I'm very near to get the games working perfectly and easily.. Just missing the 37.350 RTB... |

Why does MiniMig need an RTB? Ah you want to boot in one kickstart and then use SKICK to "switch" kickstarts. Are you sure that works? I didn't think that would be functional.

Alexh: Yes it works. I have tested it on FS-UAE.
The idea works like this: each game has an script that copies another script to a given place (common for all scripts) and then skicks into the right KS version. Then, the startup-sequence checks KS version and, if it's not the default one (3.1 from a 68000 Amiga on this case), then it runs the common game script copied by the first script I mentioned. Crazy, I know, but it works and I'm not a sane person anyway ![]() Now if I could get the RTB for KS 37.350 OR convince skick or any other solution to softkick into 37.350 without an RTB, it would work great on the Minimig. (On FS-UAE it works because KS 37.175 detects UAE HDD, but Minimig HDD will only auto-boot with KS 37.350). |

Elvira I will not work on 2.0 only 1.3. I would be surprised if there are more than some single games which work on 2.0 but not on 3.1.
However, I cannot provide a RTB for that kick. The creators of skick/mkick probably had a tool to prepare them, but this isn't available. |

Elvira I DOES work flawlessly on 2.x with this:
http://aminet.net/package/biz/patch/ElviraPatch Skick apparently can be used to softkick into any KS version without the corresponding RTB with the FORCE paremeter. I just need to know how to specify the address it's loaded into. ADR parameter seems to be ignored... Or maybe other softkick solutions? |

Since it cannot program it into the original ROM address, but needs to put it in fast mem somewhere, it needs a relocation file or it won't know how to correct all the addresses referenced in the KS since it was assembled to run at a specific memory address.
I guess in theory you could 'just' disassemble it, change the starting address and reassemble it. Notice the quotation marks. ![]() |

Without opening a tin of worms what causes such games to work on 2.x and not 3.x?
Maybe memory problem? I can't say its above my head but if its possible to load old modules could this fix the problem anyone know? But if anyone does figure out skick format could be use full for us poor people without MMU who want to softkick :-) |
