Getting Error 7 when trying to install a 32gb compact flash card

Hi,

I am trying to install and format a 32gb compact flash card in winuae 4.1.0 (64 bit) with OS3.9 and am running into an error 7.

I have unmounted the cf card from windows using drive manager and am running winuae as admin.

The card is set in win uae as a UAE (uaehf.device), unit 1 and is shown correctly in the UAE config as a [MBR] [29.8 G,RW] Generic - Compact Flash 1.00

When I start HD toolbox in the emulation I can see the cf card as -
Code:
Interface Adr LUN Drive Size

 UAEHF 1 0 Generic- Compact Flash 1.0 29.8 G
Clicking install drive reads the cf card (correctly? not sure) however when I click install I get -

Error 7 in drive description.

Since the card works as a PC drive I do not think its a a hardware problem and wonder if I need to pick a different interface or do something different in the config.

Thing is I haven't a clue what.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

PS in case you are wondering why I don't just plug the thing into my A1200 -
I currently don't have a working floppy drive and want to create a backup of the A1200's CF card. I only have a single CF card adaptor so cannot plug the new card in with WB installed. My idea is to prep the CF card in the PC and then copy across using my network. The new card will be going into another A1200.... which also does not have a working floppy :/

Remove the MBR partition table (using diskpart) first or try ticking "Lock" option in harddrive panel which attempts to unmount the partition. (and make sure also read/write is ticked)

WinUAE can't overwrite PC partition table if it is in use by Windows.

Hi Toni,

Sorry I am not that good on hard drives on the pc. I cannot find the lock option in windows 7's computer management / disk management panel.

I've cleaned the disk in diskpart, however,do I make the disk on or offline?

Many thanks.

Once youve cleaned the disk, dont run diskpart or any windows tools, go straight into winuae and add the drive, the lock option will be under winuae where you add the hard drive.

Maybe you simply forgot to click the 'Full drive/RDB mode' button...

That's what I did on my image... found this thread in order to find a solution, then found the error - and only now, afterwards, did I see your reply which confirmed exactly that, haha
