Forcing windowed games into full screen mode

Has anyone found a way to switch windowed Windows games to full screen mode at their native resolution? I've come across a few indie titles that don't have maximize buttons and where the usual tricks fail to achieve anything e.g. alt + enter. Surprisingly, punching the screen doesn't work either, unless the aim is to make your knuckles leak.

Obviously you could change your desktop resolution to match, but that would be conceding defeat.

Borderless Gaming can scale some windowed games to a full-screen borderless window.
For older games there is DxWnd and dgVoodoo2 which can also fix many compatibility issues.

Absolutely. In the interests of gathering solid empirical data I tested this hypothesis using multiple monitors comprising various designs and manufacturers.
