Your Top 3 Most Poignant High Score Tunes!

Well Virgin came today to install my 50meg broadband and...

....it works! ...for now!

So, y'know, I've just been casually trawling through the thousands of MP3'd MODs at the extremely well-appointed Stone Oakvalley collection of Amiga music ( http://www.paula8364.com/index.php ) and found myself entrenched in the weird heartstring-tugging melancholy genre of Game Over "Hi Score" tunes...

Now that I'm all dewy-eyed, I wondered which ones evoke bittersweet memories for you?

Here are my top three tear-jerkers:

1. Seven Gates of Jambala (Jochen Hippel)
<makes note to add to my funeral request list>
http://www.se2a1.net/soasc/dl.php?d=...ver%29_T01.mp3

2. Battle Squadron (Ron Klaren)
<lies down after receiving some very harrowing news>
http://www.se2a1.net/soasc/dl.php?d=...hscore_T01.mp3

3. Ghouls & Ghosts (Tim Follin)
<frolics around baron landscape dressed in Jester's hat and ne'all'else>
http://www.se2a1.net/soasc/dl.php?d=...iscore_T01.mp3

I guess my third choice there is more jaunty, but the thoughtful Justin Hayward "War of the Worlds"-esque way in which it fades away at the end makes it upsettingly depressing; I think Tim Follin is probably the king of the sorrowful yet reaching-for-the-sky high score score (see also Bionic Commando, LED Storm and, er, some others that Stone Oakvalley doesn't have.)

Ahem. Anyway, what other wrist-slashing yet hopefully optimistic high score melodies can you recommend??

<sighs, starts again knowing I FAILed>

Honourable mentions also to:

Giana Sisters (Thomas Lopatic/Chris Hulsbeck)
http://www.se2a1.net/soasc/dl.php?d=...ingame_T04.mp3

The Turkish Delight advert (Dave Whittaker/Jogeir)
http://www.se2a1.net/soasc/dl.php?d=...meover_T01.mp3

Plus! One of my own atrociously aged offerings bizarrely preserved for all-time at Stone Oakvalley:

<meant for an unreleased Tynesoft game in 1989, or something>

Surely the one I wrote for a game that we never managed to finish... sooner or later I'll find that disk and make all of you cry!

Is it this??

Perfectly tipifies that whole "it's all over for you right now, but just maybe, with another go, somehow perhaps you'll overcome your terrible failings, and yes the music will get increasingly sarcastic/patronising but hey that's just to encourage you to try again you LOSER" feeling.

Ooh, key change! Daring!

And technically marvellous.

Hi-score is far more sedate than that one, which is game-ending, IIRC. ;-)

Another honourable mention to X-Out:

Sadly not played entirely correctly within the Stone Oakvalley MP3, but with a "soldier coming home to mass gap-toothed euro celebrations" theme...

And on a Jochen-related note but slightly off-topic, has the Amiga ever sounded more melancholoy......?
