once you have prepared your floppy with your demo, you have to use the dms utility from aminet.
there are other versions, but this one from aminet is working. download dms111.run, start it on your amiga - it will extract the DMS tool, which you copy into your sys:c folder - copy dms c: from within cli or use something like Diskmaster. when done, start shell/cli and type in: dms read demodisk.dms this will read the floppy in df0: and creates a dms called demodisk.dms other options with dms: dms test demodisk.dms - just verifies/tests the dms dms write demodisk.dms - writes the dms onto the floppy in df0: |

Try step by step instruction by emufan and tell which part is problematic.

At a guess, the filepaths (or lack of) could be problematic for a novice?

I use DOpus and put my files I want to copy to disk in my RAM:T drawer. You don't have to use DOpus. I use RAM cus they vanish when I switch the machine off so all my work gets cleared. Always copy to RAM and keep your work safe elsewhere on the drive. Last thing you want is to write when you meant read and finish up with your original work as a copy of what was on the floppy disk. Happens. Work with copies.
Also keep your file names simple, and avoid typing errors that way. [WRITE TO FLOPPY FROM A DMS ALREADY ON YOUR SYSTEM] Then I fire up shell stick in a floppy and then type dms write ram:t/file.dms and press return. Make sure you have the DMS tool in your C directory and the file you want to copy in your RAM:T folder. To actually create a dms file from a floppy you type the kinda reverse [READ TO FLOPPY TO CREATE A DMS] dms read ram:t/file.dms if you don't specify the location where you want the file to go it will go in your system workbench directory. *file is the name of your disk that you want to create. PS When you find your SHELL command icon I would leave it out on your desktop. Remember punching the 'up' arrow in shell will return you to you last command. Very useful when editing a line you are likely to repeat and also maybe seeing the last thing you did. DMS is just a tool or command that resides in your C directory. Just find one and put it there. Like LHA. Also try ADFBlitzer and maybe use the graphical interface to create and read disk images in ADF format. ADF always uses the 880KB[pc capacity] where a dms can vary. Saying that an ADF Zipped will reduce somewhat Under OS3.9 you simply have to click the dms file anyway for the magic to happen. er once you have created one that is. |

i've attached the dms files, which you have to transfer to your amiga and copy into the sys:c drawer/directory.
rename the DMS.txt to DMS - i have to add an extension to upload a file. i hope it works this way |

I think most popular is Red Sector Demo Maker. For PC easy and user friendly is OldSkool Demo Maker.

I know it was just a toy, but I remember being disappointed that the RSI demo maker didn't feature a horizontal scrolly.
Still, it was nice to play around with & explore the effects. Edit: In hindsight, I may be mixing this up with a commercial title called (I think) Demo Mania.. Last edited by ghosty777; 09 November 2016 at 20:23. |
