Quake issue with sound
Hello!
Tried playing Clickbooms Quake under WinUAE 4.10.1 and AOS 3.2.1 with AHI 4.18 installed and Picasso 96 2.1b. Whenever I launch Quake as is I get a grey screen and it gets stuck there. I can move around the mousepointer. If I run it with the "-nosound" option it works but without sound obviously. If I then check for sounddrivers the window come up empty. Any ideas? Oh, Quake is patched to v1.12 but it's the same with both that version and the original. |

With WinUAE 4.10.1 Quake run with sound and not grey screen. Maybe the problem is Picasso 96 2.1b. Try to use old Picasso 96 v2.0

Oh, this used to happen to me on real hardware 20+ years ago but I can't remember what the issue was. It might have been something with AHI settings... not enough channels, maybe? Or too many?
Or something with an entirely different subsystem, like SCSI devices...? I can't be certain. SnoopDOS will probably be a help here. |

I use good old AWinQuake 0.9 (Aminet), and works perfectly fine on WB3.9+ with Picasso RTG 3.3.2, AHI, including pc mods for more detailed 3D models, official expansions and 3rd party levels, CD audio soundtrack during play.
I can make a video if you need. Last edited by hexaae; 27 February 2023 at 23:50. |

This Quake though, I used to run it on real hardware and 16 bit was just too slow and even 8 bit was barely playable. I have run this previously in WinUAE and it has worked fine so I do not know what is wrong. Yes, AmiQuake is pretty sweet, have used Frank Willies a lot in the past too amongst others. I think that ClickBooms port is interesting and pretty solid though? If I want to play Quake I can do it way better on my Win PC, Android phone etc. I just would like to experience it this way because it is pretty sweet. Just lack sound. |
