cd32 project idea i challenge ...
( dont no where put this soz)
project please help i had an i have which i put to amigakit.co.uk my idea is ive been looking for sx32 add on for my cd 32 when i thought isnt it time that we amiga owner had a soup up version that could still be in the same case style as the cd 32 backward compatible with the sx32 idea (a1200 etc) was talking to friends apparently theres so much demand for this since its not made now that you have to pay anywhere from £300 to £500 that was 6 years ago. i did research to day and its near £500 - £800 now. which proves there is demand for a computer console the size of my cd32 how about it, are you up to the challenge? sian Customer Services (Christopher) on 2013-06-02 17:48:23 Hi, There is demand, but nothing will be made until that demand is at a certain level. Individual Computers would be the people to make such a device, but that said it would need to be viable for them. You have to remember, the edge connector tooling would proberly cost around €20,000 to €40,000. To see the current level of demand, there is a thread on English Amiga Board where around 30 to 40 of us have declared interest in it. 40 is not enough, it needs to be atleast over 300 for IC to even consider something like this. Who knows, they may be able to adapt one of there current projects. (sian Jackson on 2013-06-01 23:45:15 after talking to Matthew , about the the need to find a new sx32 for my cd32. my parents bought the cd32 with sx32 pack from u several years ago when you were eyetech! ) "thanks for reply it give me hope sian Hi, There is no info to quote, the people on these forums already know the situation. Parts are limited, but we can look at stuff for possible repair. English Amiga Board address is http://eab.abime.net what i need you to do is help me get over 300 amiga interested people to post that they want this please help keep amiga alive ps i found individual computers web site http://www.jschoenfeld.com/ so who's with mw |

What for? Hard drive support? Memory upgrade?

There are units out there, I paid £70 for my SX32 about five years ago. I had been looking for one for a while but eventually someone came along who just wanted it to be used. You can get an miniPC with HDMI for a fraction of £800, run everything Amiga through emulation, have a home theatre PC, play PC games, play other emulated platforms, browse the net etc. Quote:

As much as I loved the CD32, and had fun with it's hardware modifications,
I can't help thinking this kind of effort and resource would be better put into modern hardware and perhaps software such as Raspberry Pi, AROS, and such projects that could pave the way for a potential future for the platform. Sooner or later, ALL original Amiga hardware will fail, including ALL CD32 consoles. If you're going to make some CD32 expansion, you really might as well produce a replacement for the CD32 console as well. |

I don't know if it ever came out, but the CD32 comes stock the full RGB video port,
it just doesn't have the cutout at the back of the case, or the socket installed on it's motherboard.... but it is there.. |

Was it worked out how to compile your own CD that boots on the CD32? That was the worst thing when I had one. All of the software you had could fit on one CD if you could only get it to boot. To rub it in you could copy existing CDs easily. |

random, sort-of, related question..... it it possible upgrade / expand / change the NVRAM of a CD32, and if-so, what sort of storage are we talking? Even 128k would be enough to store some WHDLoad save files etc.

Cool, I'm tempted to get one, looks to be $400Au on ebay.
I totally forgot about the non volatile memory for hi scores. I want a serial port, I think the CD32 one was not a complete one for driving a modem, but could do the null modem link to connect to other Amigas. Last edited by xArtx; 15 June 2013 at 19:40. |
