GVP 2000-HC2 and hdtoolbox (or similar)

Greetings.

In my A2000 I have a GVP 2000-HC2 and a 250mb scsi disk. This works fine.
http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.co...t.aspx?id=1967
(Thats the actual card. I sent the pics in. hehe).

I've configured the disk using the GVP floppy and that all works fine. However, I'd like to replace the filesystem or something and need it to appear in the hdtoolbox (i've tested various hd tools).

The rom on it is old. I do have the 3.15 version that I can burn to an eprom but I've heard that I also need a PAL update on the card since its so old. Have not found that.

Since the rom is old, the device is scsidev.device. That is what sysinfo tells me is loaded anyway. When I enter that in hdtoolsbox, it just hangs when searching for devices. Any other devices I've tried just comes up empty.

Any ideas of
1: Where I can get a new PAL for it (And possibly rom while I'm at it)
2: Get it to work as is. I do not need a large disk on this amiga, so the current ROM is fine if I get it to work.

Thanks =)

Some time ago, I was in exactly the same boat as you, identical card with Ver 1.0 ROMS. You have to get the Ver 3.15 ROM working in order to change file systems and/or use larger hard drives on this card. I've also been searching forever for the PAL upgrade without any luck.

I tried every imaginable thing to get the 3.15 ROM working on this card, split the ROM into odd and even, byte-swapped it, checksummed it etc. I tried creating a custom Kickstart 3.1 ROM by including the 3.15 ROM (binary and binddrivers) using Remus, byte swapping etc and also had no luck.

I gave up on this card for a while until I bought a GVP IO Extender card. I did not realise at the time that I bought the card that the IC socket on the IO Extender was actually a ROM socket for GVP devices. As soon as I discovered that, I inserted the 3.15 ROM into the socket, jumpered J4 and removed the Ver 1.0 ROMs from the 2000-HC2. I switched on my A2000 and it booted with the 3.15 ROM!

I was then able to use HDInstTools and install PFS/3 on the HDD. I was a very happy man!

If you do want to go the IO Extender route, you'll need to get Ver 6 or lower, Ver 7 or higher don't have the ROM socket soldered in.

If anyone out there does have a 2000-HC2 card with the PAL upgrade, please can you try copy the PAL and make it available to those of us who don't have it. (I realise this could be deemed copyright infringement but seeing as there is no possible way to get it by any other means, I hope it's OK to ask here)

Thanks for the information! I hope someone can read the PAL for future use. For now, I'll look for a IO Extender.

Did you guys follow Ralph Babel's instructions? The 3.15 ROM goes on one chip and is plugged into the socket where the EVEN chip was. The ODD socket is left empty.

Yes. That only works if you have a new PAL chip on the GVP 2000-HC2 card.
On the GVP 2000-HC card though (no memory), you do not need a new PAL apparently.

Ok, good to know.

Have you tried asking gvpsales on amibay about the PALs?

They are still active? Interesting...

Edit: PM sent to GVP_SALES on amibay. Will update here if I get a response.
