Stock A2000 - GVP A2000-HC+8 Series II Vs Buddha IDE

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered before, but my pretty poor search skills did not find anything…..

I have a stock Amiga 2000B Rev 6 with 4MB fast RAM. Which would be the better HDD card performance wise out of GVP A2000-HC+8 Series II or Buddha IDE?

From my searches I have discovered that the GVP card uses SCSI which can DMA directly to the oncard RAM where with IDE the 68K processor moves the data to/from RAM so it would appear the GVP card would be quicker moving data. But noting the CPU runs at 7MHz would there be a noticeable difference in file read/write times?

I already have the GVP card and the HDD has just died. Sourcing SCSI devices is challenging and expensive, so I’m tempted to move to IDE.

Thanks in anticipation.

I've never owned a Buddha IDE and there are many fans using them with CF cards etc. I did however use the IDE in a 4000 I had and did not like it.

Personally I'd stick with the GVP card. (1) You already own it and it's a great card (2) It's SCSI with DMA which should provide a bit smoother experience on a stock 68k.

Have you looked at SCSI2SD? I'm using a v5 one on my A2091...

edit: You can get Babel's GURU ROM for it, how cool is that!

Thanks for the tips.

The SCSI2SD looks like an interesting option but quite expensive I'm guessing because of the semiconductor shortage

I'm still leaning towards the Buddha assuming the performance is OK. The big advantage is you can use cheap IDE devices such as Hdds and CD drives and the SuperDisk drive I just aquired.
