x10 strength feels a bit low. How about we have the final score as Strength Points x 1000 (eg. 34.3 = 34,300)? - in other words, just add two zero's to the strength score.
The highest score I have seen is 100.5, so that would be a 100,500 score. |

Well, it doesn't make any difference which way we do it. There's no such thing as 'too low' as it's all relative and won't make any difference to the positioning and points awarded to the players. Multiplying by 10 is just as valid as multiplying by 1000. If anything the latter feels more gimmicky to me and just putting an extra couple of zeros on the end doesn't make it more impressive to me.

Graham, How about a rule for this. I've altered the rule on Lemon to read X10. We cant use .points, so it will have to be at least x10. I think 362 points for completing the whole game feels unrewarding, but as you say, the relative score is just the same. Of course a gimmick to attract folks to our classy compo is never any harm.
nobody: Still early days so plenty of time to get a better score, but I cant work out how your death totals at the top of the screenshot have any bearing, or even if we could use those to affect the score. Why does it say death 9? By choosing a 2 player game, you could effectively use player 2 is a punch bag, to distract the enemies, and defend it against attacks - which is not really in the spirit of the compo. Its easy to press ESC at any point, so even kill the second player at any point, but when I tried to kill the second player off in my test last week, the character got zero strength score. Not to mention you could use the 2nd players magic to defeat the final boss. Please help me out here. Last edited by lifeschool; 04 September 2017 at 22:09. |

Beat the game, but score is still below 40% because I was on my last life and last health bar:
Graham-style score: 393 lifeschool-style score: 39,300 For reference again here's how the score is calculated: Quote:

I think x10 is probably the most obvious solution score-wise. We can always change it later if we really need to (e.g. if there is a way to tie-break if we really need it although looking at the game's rather unusual scoring methods we probably won't) as nobody needs to do anything to make that happen.
Will try and submit a score earlier this time. I've never played this before, or even actually ever see it moving, so it will be an experience for me if nothing else. |

This game has some cracked ADF that don't do 100%. I used a skid row cracked ADF and I reached the final boss with one full life and full magic almost sure win and crashed lol. Now I use the latest whdload but didn't check the final boss. Better use the ADF provided here, I guess it is ok.

WHDload for this game is corrupt for 2 player game. Sometimes it is impossible to jump over the abbyss. Works fine in 1pl mode and also with cracks.

Seems like every lost health bar is counted as 1 "death". I started the last level with full lives and health and ended the game with 1 life and 1 bar left, so that's 8 deaths.
Nobody's player 2 lost all three lives with full bars thus 9 deaths. |

It means 9 deaths in last level. It's deaths per level. Death=every energy bar lost.

This is one of the most confusing scoring system I have ever seen.

Indeed. Next time I'll take another screenshot before it scrolls down - then it shows the different scores per stage.

Thanks guys. No need to provide extra stats, but may be interesting to see anyway. If all of the numbers were on the final screen then thats one thing, but as they rush by so quickly I dont think they could be reliably used in the scoring at all.
As for ties, I think I still have the image of not liking ties - but I was defending bugs in the our scoring system at the time of those remarks, which had a problem with ties. The system is now fixed so ties are no longer an issue. We have seen several games where we have had ties since, and to be honest I'd rather players get the same score for the same effort. |

^ I agree, tied scores should always yield the same league points.
497 Although we have the formula the scoring system still remains a mystery to me. |
