Sure, there's a place where you can add a JTAG connector (5x2 pins) and hook a programmer to it. I did that to update my accelerator. It would require some soldering expertise though.

I was typing on my phone and it put guys instead of guides..I didn't see it until i logged in just now.

I wondered if i might be able to flash it myself. I wouldn't mind knowing if there was some way to determine what version of the firmware it is currently running.

'guides' makes more sense.

Those USB programmers (Platform Cable USB) are somewhat expensive if you only need to use it for a single device. There are also parallel port programmers (Xilinx Parallel Cable IV) but I am not sure if they are much cheaper. There's a schematic of a parallel port programmer in here so you can make one yourself:
