New Amiga game? (Doom SIGIL wad by John Romero)

Okay, so a little 'click-baitey', but https://www.romerogames.ie/sigil Seems we could use this wad file in the several Doom ports for the Amiga and have a new game to play!

What do you guys think?

It's meant to only need a vanilla Doom Engine (not chocolate) but with visibility limits removed (I have no idea what that sentence means BTW).

Saying that though, GZDoom has been used to develop it and the GZDoom engine hasn't been ported over to the Amiga (although that depends on what you call an Amiga)

One of my old 68K ports might run it OK if you have the MIPS

Kind of what I was thinking / hoping. Certainly would be awesome to try it out. Just about everything out there has some sort of doom engine port, but of course some systems will have more memory limits than others.

Jeez, it's only 16. Now ask which is the best.

I think the title of the thread topic should be changed so I don't keep getting my hopes up.

"NEW AMIGA GAME!!"
"Really?"
"No. Just a list of DOOM ports."

It means using a port which doesn't output a "visplanes overflow" message, when trying to play it. See: https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Visplane_overflow

Almost all modern source ports don't have a maximum visplane limit. So just try it out, if you're unsure.

I'm assuming the framerate would be pretty low for this chapter on the miggy.
There's quite a few scenes with loads of enemies which might be a struggle to display adequately.

I was going to try it with DoomWOS, since I figured the PPC port should have the cajones to deal with it. It wasn't too happy with the -iwad DOOM.WAD -file SIGIL.WAD options though. :P Will have to try one of the ports Novacoder mentioned, though my 060 wouldn't go higher than 50mhz apparently, the PPC is up to 420 though.

Seems to work fine with prboom.wos -iwad DOOM.WAD -file SIGIL.wad -file SIGIL_COMPAT.wad

At least the demo started and the splash screen was from Sigil. And I could see Sigil in the episode list. Haven't tested further as it complained about me using the shareware version of DOOM.WAD.

Why do you pass both WAD's? Either use SIGIL_COMPAT (it replaces episode 3) or SIGIL (adds episode 5). But don't both!

Do you actually use the shareware version of DOOM.WAD?

You are right. SIGIL.WAD does not work with my prboom. Only SIGIL_COMPAT. I am missing episode 4 so maybe that is it.

I replaced DOOM.WAD with the full version and now it seems to work correctly as episode 3.

That one took me a while too. It's far too easy to miss those shoot switches, and to get the key I must have walked past that teleporter 100 times.

I could succesfully start Sigil using DoomAttack-AIO by modifying the DoomU (Ultimate Doom) launch script:

Code:
DoomAttack -wad $MainWAD -file SIGIL_COMPAT.wad -fps -joypad -noinputhack
I had no luck with the original DOOM.wad because it was missing a texture.
Also no luck with SIGIL.wad and DOOMU.wad - Sigil splash screen is OK but the fifth episode didn't show up.

Haven't tried on real hardware yet, but you'll need a beefy Amiga to play this with acceptable fps (040+ is my guess).

update: eh, quits after a few seconds with "Error: R_FindPlane: No more visplanes". So DoomAttack isn't one of those ports that have this limit removed.
