Making the A4000 PSU less noisy

I really dislike the A4000 PSU fan design! Why did they put the fan on the opposite side? To make it a tiny bit more silent? It's still noisy, and it makes me kind of annoyed.

I assume the PSU really need good air flow now that the fan is placed in this weird way? I'd love to put a 100 ohm resistor on the fan line to make it less noisy, but this might make it too hot in there... Any ideas?

Also, I have no dremel or such tools (neither am I skilled with that) to cut ventilation holes, make new fan screw holes and the like.

Just replace the fan with a noiseless one. Lower RPM and better bearings

Any specific suggestion? I'll order one from a local online shop that has a lot of known computer hardware.

Have you seen mfilos' PSU hack?

I know you don't have the tools but it gives lots of info and also shows what type of fan he used

Just ordered Coolink SWiF2-80P, the one (AFAIK) alexh uses in his.
The fan should blow air from the PSU (and the outside) and in to the A4000, right?

Steve.
Not bad.

Here's some improvement ideas:
- Use finer mesh for the back panel, the one he used had small holes with wide areas in between. Not optimal for airflow/noise.
- Cut out the original stamped fan finger guard from the fan end and install a wire finger guard in its place for improved airflow on that side.

Just putting in a quieter fan makes a great deal of difference; I'd suggest starting with that and then see if you need to make more extensive modifications.

The fan should blow air out of the PSU (sucking air from inside the A4000).
