Cody FTP
Okay, I've got a small FTP set up on my home PC.
I'm going to make it public and see what happens. It's online most of the time, but when if I go away for holiday or something, I'll turn off my PC. There are no restrictions on it, but I suppose I'll put some on if my DSL connection is swamped. The TOSEC stuff isn't complete, but lots is there already. Here are the connection details: [Change of plan! Email/PM me for a login] |

I bet you'll have to setup limits pretty quickly as this info will certainly get around just as fast

Maybe this is a bad idea...
We'll see how it goes. If it slows down too much, I'll set up personal logins for people or set a max number of logins/transfer limit. |

This is partly a bad idea because you don't know who is accessing you for sure as long as you don't set up individual user accounts.

I'm going on holiday from tomorrow until Sunday 15th June, so the FTP will be offline, as I'll be shutting down my PC tomorrow morning.
Just thought that you'd like to know! |

Personal FTP
Well done Cody for setting up thisFTP, though as many others have already said it may get very busy, and not always from desirables, though your fine effort is commendable....

Thanks RokChild!
I've merged your new post with this thread, as I figured that it was supposed to be a reply rather than a new thread. The FTP has served 150 gigs of data since November, with nearly 10,000 connections, so I'm glad that it's being used. The only limits on the FTP are decided by the number of users online at once e.g. the bandwidth has to be shared by everyone. I don't impose speed limits, download ratios or number of users online, as I figure that I don't own the files and I used to get really annoyed with FTPs that displayed constant 'too many users' messages. I just want to share files with people who want them. I also hate the term 'leecher', as not everyone has something to share in return for downloads. |
