Possible A4000 battery leak?

Can you determine from the pictures whether this is battery leak or not?

I am not experiencing any problems with the A4000 at the moment.

However, I haven't had the chance to check all SIMM slots, though, as I have only one 4MB SIMM.

Yes it is, see the little 'bubbles' near the simm socket on the copper traces and the green fur around the area, that's what needs to be neutralized and cleaned.

@Loedown: Ok, thanks for sorting that out.

I have cleaned the area with isopropanol. However, I have heard a squeeze of lemon juice is what that is required!?

Or use Distilled Vinegar (the clear type) clean the area with the Vinegar (or Lemon Juice) and Tooth Brush. Leave for 10-15 minutes and then clean again thuroughly with IPA and make sure you let it dry properly before switching on - overnight in the airing cupboard if you have one is the best place

I use CRC Contact Cleaner, other people use other methods, some of which are listed above

New pictures after cleaning. Lemon juice was used to neutralize.

Some spots was a bit hard to reach with the brush and to getting a good visual view for inspection wasn't all that easy either. I might need another go. Or what do you think?

The backside of the motherboard has not been addressed. I suspect there will be a coating of dried lemon juice there, as is dripped down the tiny holes during the process. Can this do any harm in the long term?

I think it looks pretty good but make sure you get all the lemon juice off, acids and metals.

Yes, now it's time to wash to board with tap water, then apply copious amount of IPA alcohol over and let the board dry for a couple of days.

Dry it EXCEPTIONALLY well, over 2 - 3 days at elevated temperatures at least, let it bake at about 50 - 60 degrees C and when you finish, let it cool slowly so that thermal shock does not occur.

I have not touched it for about a week now. However, it has not yet been exposed to the temperatures you describe. My guess is that the apartment has had about 20 degrees C or less on average.. brrr.. I will give it a go in the oven, thought.

The reason for baking it in the first place is to stop corrosion from occuring.

Low heat and allow it to cool slowly.

The A4000 has been cleaned, neutralized, washed, baked, cooled, tested and works as good as ever!

Thanks all.

I don't think I would have put mine in an oven

Airing cupboard maybe.

But then I don't think I would have washed mine in the sink/shower either.

Nice job.

I've washed Cases and Keyboards in the Shower (and let dry in the Airing Cupboard) but never a Motherboard - I just couldn't do that

Glad it's working well

Steve.
