WinUAE compatible Amiga OS versions on PC Hardware
Hi there,
I have 4 unused A500s which are sitting in my basement. I don't plan on touching them any longer but do want to use the WinUAE software on my PC to emulate the Amiga machine. I have been reviewing many videos on Youtube explaining how to setup WinUAE on a PC and haven't been able to get some key ingredients properly setup. I am trying to get screen modes setup with Picasso 96 drivers and they are NOT showing when following directions being explained in MikeyGRetro video. I am going to revisit Picasso 96 and see if I can get it working. I have configured my "G" drive to be a devoted repository for anything related to my Amiga configuration. I would like to do the following which I think can be accomplished;Configure the fastest processor (Motorola 68060?). Devote HDD space to hold the Amiga OS, additional Amiga software and have ample storage capacity. I currently have assigned 100 Megabytes but can easily make this larger. My PC consists of an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor. 16 Gigs of memory Nvidia GeForce 2070 MSI MAG274QRF-QD monitor (2560 X 1440 @ 165HZ) My question. Because I have a Windows 11 machine with the above specs, what is the newest version of Amiga OS that can run from WinUAE? Are there any minimum requirements for storage space to have the OS and programs installed? Last edited by Findy; 02 August 2024 at 19:50. |

Since you're going the 68k way (68060) it is AmigaOS 3.2 and 500MB (even 100) are enough for JUST the OS

You can also use folders in WinUAE and then you don't have to worry about needing more space later.

Not sure what you followed, but we have a bit outdated guide @ EAB, done by our late friend Paul aka Green Alien.
https://guide.abime.net/home.htm Latest Amiga OS is OS 3.2.2 and please don't be confused with numbers, as it came after 3.9 and 4.0/4.1. (let's not talk about why ) You can find all you need to setup earlier OSes on www (google is your friend) and should not have any issues setting up 3.1 or earlier in WinUAE. You can also opt to one of pre-made setups, such as ClassicWB. There are also many more options, but you would to tell more about what you want to do with the setup / what do you want to accomplish. You can run every Amiga OS in WinUAE. |

Running Amiga OS 3.2
Thanks for the reply Anubis. Everything is working properly now on version 3.2. I would assume there is an update for me to get to 3.2.2 which I will look at soon.

Updates are located on Hyperion's site and available after registering OS 3.2 Serial Number, you can skip the 3.2.1 update and go directly with 3.2.2.
