Gunship controls

Would anyone happen to know the controls to Gunship? I can't get my bloody helicopter off the ground.

I must have had this game for years, and I could never work out how to take off either!

Now finally I can - thanks for bringing Gunship up. And thanks for the doc, Belgie.

I had the first Gunship game on the C64. It would take 200 on the tape counter to get to the main menu on side A !!!.. and then i had to turn the tape to side B and load for another 50 to start mission 1 !!!..

Then after you would finish a mission, you had to load 200 again!!!!!!! and then 50 again to get mission 2. Same for mission 3, 4.. etc. And then it would occasionally crash!!!! #$#@$#%@

LOL

That's what you get for having the read-head on the tapedrive out of alignment

Oh that was another thing that used to kill me with the tape drive!.. Constantly realigning the head!!. One tiny movement of the screw could mean the game would load, and then sometimes no matter HOW MANY times you tried to get it working, it would still ALWAYS crash!.

And then there were some games like Driller or The Last Ninja that loaded every single time no matter how the head was aligned!!.. Arrrghhh..

So, I'm resurrecting this thread, as I'm now having the same problem...
WinUAE 4.9.1 on Win10.
I'm running Gunship on an emulated A1200 WB3.1
And, while I can get my engines running, I can't get off the ground.
The F1-4 keys don't appear to work within the game.
And following @Belgarath's text file, I try using the * key on the keypad, and it returns me to the workbench screen...
Anyone have any ideas how to take off in the 2020s?

Tapping F1 should increase the throttle once engines are running.

Sounds like WHDLoad QuitKey is interfering, it can be re-assigned https://whdload.de/docs/en/opt.html#QuitKey

Just read the manual, <9> to turn the engines, then keep pressing the <=> key until the gauge rises to the top and you're in the air

Here's a pdf of the keyboard overlay. Shouldn't need to use the * key.

I just tested it and pressed 1 & 2 to start the engines, then 3 to engage the rotors. Finally F1 or F2 to go up and F3 or F4 to go down.
