Power Drive broken controls?

i like this game, i have totally played it on SNintendo and Megadrive BITD

but on Amiga, seems something not right with the car controls
expecially the rotating one, which should be the most user-friendly
(it surely is on consoles)
almost difficult to keep the car going in a straight-line
sometime it steers too much, sometime too little
a mess imo, yet from the slow first cars!
and if you hit something one time, everything becomes even harder

hard to proceed into the game this way
wondering if was a programmers choice, or maybe a lack of optimization;
also strange that the same control works perfect in the practice round !

also found this Codetapper note on the whdload page :
'Maybe I am doing something wrong but I found the rotational steering
control completely uncontrolable due to the skidding the car does. I have
changed the game to default to directional control (but you can change it
back in the options menu) which means you simply angle the joystick in the
direction you wish to go.'

ok, but the rotating control is imo better for these type of games;
a shame, cause the rest seems all there

The manual (http://hol.abime.net/1117/manual) mentions something about pendulum turns and power slides. Not sure but it might be intentional

if it's true, it could be a case of 'more is worse'
5.8 the LemonAmiga average score, well i sadly agree
if the controls are not perfect, that's the result

in a racing game

the CD32 version seems affected too, this @chromax comment fits perfectly imo :
'It looks so good and plays so horrible. Frustrationlevel: 10

It would be really funny if there where not so big mistakes in the gameplay.

- You will be stopped without mercy if you touch the roadside.

- The steering works with areas. If you steer in one direction and it was not long enough, the steering goes back into the old position. This, with the stopping at the roadside, is very frustrating. A free rotation control system (like any other games) had give this game 50% more fun!

- Very hard game. If you stop one time, you can't win the round. And you will stop, because of the controls

A shame, really. I wanted to play it, but at the end I gave up.'

Also about WHDLoad version. To use space key to choose reverse gear I had to disable ButtonWait in tooltypes.
