make your own 23 pin video connector for less than $1

Hi all.

I was in need of a new video connector for an A500+ and wasn't going to pay 24 euro for one. So i decided to try to make my own.....

I used some 25 pin DSUBs from Aliexpress (5 for $2.50). I then created an STL file for a plate...

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...3pin006_3d.stl Print them on your 3D printer.

I then removed the metal plate, snipped the 2 end pins on the right side of the connector. used a small file to rough up the plastic on the connector a bit to help the new printed plate stick with some super glue

here is a pic...

You can still use a screw on the left side and it fits perfectly

Looks like a great idea!
Can you show assembly photos?

Hi, this is a Very easy mod, here is a picture that should paint 1000 words...

first, remove 2 screws from 25pin connector, metal plate will come off.

- snip the right hand side 2 pins on connector as shown (total of 4 snips).
- rough up the face of the connector the new printed (PLA for me) plate will be attaching to.
- remove part of the right side plastic on the connector so it is the same length as the printed plate (so it doesnt stick out.
- dab superglue on the flat side of the printed plate and place on the connector.
- find a 23 pin connector and connect it to your new 23 pin connector, this will line up the new plate and also will push the plate tighter to where it is connected to

That is basically it. the plastic plate is actually quite strong and i could squeeze it without it beaking. if you dont like it you can always create a new one

I have a few projects that will hopefully be done in the next couple of weeks, will post them in here.

cut DB25 in the middle, remove on column, probably easier, metal can be microwelded (TIG?) or soldered (brass or copper, ages ago i sue ordinary tin based alloy).
I made plug DB23 for my Amiga in such way.

Nice job - I've done a 3d printed straight through connector (to go on cables) but not a right angle.

This is for rare 23-pin right angle motherboard connectors?

Straight through 23-pin cable connectors are much cheaper right? They were remade in volume just recently no?

Thanks Kipper.
I have a A500 MB that floppy drive did not work, so I used it as a parts bin. Long story short, I removed that connector for something, but then I forgot what I did with it.
I'm thinking to fix it, but I still need the vidiot board.

Yes, the DB23F (female) cable connectors someone remade but they are marked up heavily when reselling. You can have them made in China for $2 apiece, but MoQ 500 pcs.

Maybe they can make DB23M too? In that case I guess you could do this variant with a small PCB to fit as a right-angle motherboard connector?

The motherboard angled 23 pin socket for the floppy drive will be just as easy to mod i think, a Dremel would be weopon of choice for this one, i will prob hve to make a few for this upcoming project i am working on
