Missing Enemy / Other WinUAE Bugs

There is a problem with WinUAE as regards to how it renders objects in game, for example in Wizzys Quest (below) it fails to render one of the enemy sprites, resulting in you being unable to complete the level, since you cannot "see" where the enemy is on screen under emulation:


Also in a game called Mother Lode, enemy sprite detection does not work, as you can walk through enemies therefore making the game easy to complete since they do not kill you on touch

There are many possible configuration options in WinUAE that can influence the emulator's behaviour. Did you try this using Cycle Accurate (full) chipset emulation and with Collision Level set to full? Was this on an A500 configuration, or did you emulate a higher specced Amiga?

This info can help in figuring out whether it's an emulator bug or a settings issue

Also, which disk are you using of the possible 5?

@Amiga600; what level is this and I'll test?

Edit: don't worry, it's level 12.

Wizzy's quest is an excellent game but has some bugs.
As I have finished it under WinUAE, I know for sure that all enemies on level 12 are present.
Here is a link to a post containing my video walkthrough (game installed on HD) : https://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p...8&postcount=55. The video has chapter facility so it's easy to jump to the required level.
(you can check the full thread if you like or have issue playing from HD).

Edit: I played it with WinUAE 4.0.1 (x86). Wich version are you using ?

Missing enemy most likely is sprite 7 and it got disabled because of too early display start position. If game is system friendly, it might have "inherited" WB overscan/screenmode settings that don't support all sprites.

I am using 4.3.0 (2019.12.19) - I primarily use a HDD image, which I have setup for everything from Workbench Tools to Games and File/Directory managers like SID2

I installed most games directly to HD now (there are WHDLoad ones as well) but Wizzy is installed as files directly, I just run it via Workbench - even loading the disk gives the same problem

Yup, just tested "Wizzy's Quest (1990)(G&S Appenzeller - 17-Bit Software)(PD).adf" using an "A500 / ECS Agnus (Cycle exact) / KS 1.3 / 512KB Chip & 512KB Slow RAM" configuration.

Both grim reapers are present:

Maybe you should give a go with the latest 4.4.0 then

I actually got it working now, Thanks - seems a few settings just caused that rather strange issue
