Gunship 2000 AGA - Few questions

I don’t know is this a bug or copy protection but after mission 4, when I get my squad I cannot hit anything with missiles. I didn’t play Gunship 2000 at least 10 years but I don’t remember that I have problems with my original game.

Second, I don’t know how to order someone from my squad to pick up missing pilots and troops. It seems I must order him to land with Blackhawk on top of missing pilot but it seems impossible to set precise waypoint. When i piloting Blackhawk it’s not a problem but I prefer to pilot assault choppers.

And again sorry for bad English

As far as I remember it is a bug in the game (though I think corrected in WHDLoad version). I think ECS version is free of this flaw.

Yes, if you google comp.sys.amiga.games you should find some stuff about this. I think Microprose claimed at one point that the "feature" was implemented in order to balance up the gameplay, as flying with a squad made it too easy for the player.

No, seriously.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, same thing with WHDLoad version from Killergorila’s package. Maybe JOTD can fix this in his next release.

Sorry for a reply to an old thread, but I just recently found this forum. I too experienced the same problem. Missiles had about the same range as cannon, if they were effective at all. They worked just fine when you first started the game, being a single ship, but as soon as you had a squad of 5, the missiles were virtually useless. I dumped the AGA version of Gunship 2000 and went back to the ECS version and voila - missiles work as advertised!! I really don't notice the difference in graphics. Now if someone could just figure out how to get an analog joystick to work with G2000 in Winuae!!

OK so I am the post resurector again but... For what it's worth I have experienced the useless missiles when you fly as a squad BUT just today, once I'd refueled and re-armed at the FARP my missiles seemed to work! Oh well. That's it. But GS2000 is still pretty cool.

What flaw?

Some missiles REQUIRES constant locking on target. Just keep eye on enemy and everything will be ok.

This was a known problem with the AGA version.
Missiles worked normally in "Single Mission", but when you advanced rank and played in "Flight" or "Campaign" mode, your missiles would always miss, leaving you with only the gun.

This patch on Aminet fixes the problem: http://aminet.net/package/game/patch/gs2000AGAfix

Great! I'll have to try this.

Thanks for posting it, Spyros and, if I am right in thinking that you are the author of this patch, thanks for fixing it!

@DamienD
Thanks, nice to meet you.

@vroom6sri
Yes, no problem. You're welcome.

Maybe a short description of this problem and a link to the patch could be added to the notes of the AGA version on HOL? So that people can play without problems.

I also read some more info on this on a blog during the weekend. It was by someone who posted his correspondence with Microprose Support on this problem back in the day. They replied that they were aware of this issue, but did not intend to fix it (if I remember correctly).
Unfortunately, I can't find the link again at the moment.
EDIT: Found it: http://www.verycomputer.com/2_12f2ce1b7fa73976_1.htm

Spyros - are you able to explain what the issue was (if it's not too technical)?

Sure, it was a byte value in the weapons' declaration. Eg. 1 byte determines order of appearance on the weapons list, etc. One of the values was later used to make the missile miss, so it looks like it was a feature.

Thanks for the patch .

Am I right when I think that your next assignment will be to make the DOS-only add-on missions playable on the Amiga versions?

If one has a GS2000 CD32 .lua file that one wants to play in PUAE 2021 in RetroArch, but also wanted to apply your patch to this .lua file, would that be at all possible? How would one go about accomplishing that?

Sorry, total noob here, as you can see from the number of posts I have...
