Simm Swap 2M Simm For Any Size You Need

The only simms I don't have in abundance is 2M simms for the early A4000 mainboard chip memory.

I will swap any size simm you need, one piece for one piece of 2M simms, you pay your postage and I will pay mine. Or even if you need a specific type of memory I may have that too.

Even if you have a few spare 2M simms for me then name your price and we'll go from there.

Thanks Gang.

Does the same person post here perchance?

I avoid Amibay after the way they treated Zetr0.

That is a story I'd like to hear, perhaps not in this thread, but still, since I just started shopping there =)

I don't know.. his nick is Dragonheart .. I bought a stick of ram from him without any trouble...

otherwise you may use an 8mb stick for chipram by setting the 2-8 mb jumper for 8mb.. (or so I heard - otherwise just ground the unused address line and it'll work as well).

@Turran

Zetr0 is one of the most helpful people here and one of the most generous, he was treated poorly by some members of Amibay and in a rare case for me of solidarity I don't deal with Amibay. The whole mess has now been sorted but like all things the feelings will remain. I cannot speak for Zetr0 but I believe it's better to leave sleeping dogs lie.

I do have some 8 meg sticks here but I don't know if they're single sided or not, I will give them a try and thanks for the name of the seller. I note Amigakit have them as well and I may end up getting one or two from there.

You are welcome.. It doesn't matter whether it's single sided or not, as long as it fits physically.. What matters is that you use a double rank module, which 2MB and 8MB always is (that's why you can't use a 4MB, btw)..

Double rank = ?

Memory geometry or ?

I know some memory is registered and some has parity which the Amiga ignores I believe, could you be a little more clear in your comment please?

The simple explanation is that for simm sizes of (2^n)^2 (256K,1M,4M,etc), a single rank is needed, for sizes 2*(2^n)^2 (512K,2M,8M,etc), twice is needed, of course - double rank is basically 2 simms on one stick, using an extra signal in the simm socket to select the "second" simm.

Sometimes double rank simms use the "backside" of the stick for the "second" simm, but you cannot rely on this - single rank simms may use the backside for chips as well, if there's not enough room on the front..

hope that makes sense :-)

Like a _CS signal, so selecting the bank essentially. Good to see that not even memory manufacturers used standards and did their own thing.

Thanks for the explanation.

actually it's an extra RAS signal, but you get the idea

I think it's fully JEDEC compliant as well..
