After a discussion on IRC with Idoru he is going to redo these possibly with an exel spreadsheet or something!

If you want to post a correction or a new abbreviation in here then you need to supply PROOF!

The prrof can be a screeshot, or an ascii/ansi artwork etc

Maybe we should join the thread with this one (after a cleaning/culling): http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=20793
The list needs some updates with the info given on the other thread (like CCW etc.) too.

The new version will be a list of abbreviations used in the dats currently, with *every* abbreviation requiring some kind of proof. A separate list can be maintained for groups NOT currently in the dats (although that's more likely to be the same list, different color text to be honest).

After looking through the linked thread, there is only what I would consider proof for BtS, TRSi & UNT. Of course, the list will be started from scratch so the extra group names will be added in the list as unproven. Eventually I did want to do the cull stuff Tuesday/Wednesday, but I keep getting sidetracked...

edit: Oops, I missed YUCS above

@Galahad: Do you have a prove?

Anyway, i think it's too exaggerated that all abbreviations need a proof now and it seems some proofs i provided are not strong enough??? How comes that all abbreviations need to be verified

Right, but if you leave out the amendments i did you can count only one or two post from other members contributing to the thread. Low demand for this so why a totally rework is needed?

The reason abbreviations were used to start with was to keep file names down (Idoru feel freew to correct me here).

So it is only right that the CORRECT abbreviations are used. The idea of the spreadsheet is so we can include the proof etc..

A simple screenshot or whatever is all that is needed and the names are always open to discussion (well except for Galahads suggestion )

DOC Doctor Manuse Orgasm Crackings (also used by Doctor Mabuse Organic Crackings)
...

I've never seen those 2 definitions before .. I always known it (DOC) to mean Doctor Mabuse Orgasm Crackings as seen in their demos.

Most of your posts didn't have any proof anyway Most of the ASCII didn't contain any abbreviations & the suggestions were based on the first few characters of a dms filename, which as I've already explained wouldn't be used unless there was nothing else possible. The majority are probably correct mind you & they're still useful to populate the list.

It's not like we need to sit down & proove everything before we can rename anything else, this isn't gonna be done overnight. All I suggest is that when we play a game or rename a file, grab a screenshot if the intro/cracktro/trainer menu etc. has some proof of an abbreviation & eventually we'll fill the list as best as possible & alter abbreviations used as necessary.

NOB has got the right idea with CCW

Those dms files were released by the groups themself and it was a standard in the scene to use the first characters for the group abbreviations...

Backlash uses BLH as abbreviation in their filenames (intro on Genesia for example) and in their trainer / fixes .lha filenames (BLH-GETR.LHA e.g.).
